CAT is one of the toughest exams in the Country. This exam is conducted to segregate the students for taking admission in various top B- Schools or the IIMs (Indian Institute of Management). The Common Admission Test examination is conducted online. And all the procedures for filling the application form is online.

So most of the time the candidates are confused or unknown of many facts. There must be many questions with the candidates like what is the criteria for appearing CAT exam or is there any age limit for CAT exam. This article will provide all the necessary details to the candidates and will give all the answers to their questions.

What is CAT Exam

CAT or Common Admission Test is a global exam conducted by the IIMs (Indian Institute of Management). Every year IIMs conduct the CAT exams all over India.

This exam is the entry point for taking admission in the top Management Institutions like the IIMs (Indian Institute of Management).

There are many questions with the candidates regarding the age limit for CAT exam or the eligibility criteria. There are many people who are around their age of 50s still appearing for their CAT exams.

These include many famous personalities as well as famous authors like Arun Sharma. There are many famous founders of some institutions who are still appearing for their CAT exam.

Age Limit for CAT exam

So there is no age limit for appearing for CAT exam. But there is certain age limit which the candidate should have completed the age of 20 to appear for the CAT exam. And there is no upper limit for the exam.

Eligibility Criteria for the candidates

There is some eligibility criteria for the candidates where they have to fulfill these criteria. The criteria are as follows:

  • Completed Bachelor’s degree with the required percentage of marks*.
  • Completed professional degree (CA/CS/ICWA) with required percentage*.
  • Should be in the final year of Bachelor’s degree with required percentage*.

No of attempts

The CAT exam allows any candidate to appear for infinite times. There is no limit for the CAT exam candidates to the number of attempts of giving the exam. A candidate can appear unlimited time throughout his / her entire life span.

But the candidates should have some criteria for the candidate should hold minimum 50 % marks or equal no of CGPA or grade in Graduation.

The degree must be completed from any Government recognized University


Cut off for the Reserved Category

There is also separate cut off for the reserved category and the open Caste. Schedule Castes (ST) and the Scheduled Tribes (ST) and the Persons with Disability (PWD) candidates should have minimum 45% of percentage or equivalent amount of CGPA or grade for appearing in the CAT examination.

Whereas, for the general candidates there is 50% of percentage or equivalent amount of CGPA or grade for appearing in the CAT examination.

The candidates should be a graduate from any college to appear for the CAT exam. The candidates can be from any field and from any stream.

The candidates appearing for the CAT exam must have a valid and verified certificate from the University for appearing for the CAT exam. The one condition is that the University or the College from which the candidate is appearing should have UGC approval.

A candidate can apply maximum times for the CAT exam as there is no upper age limit.


CAT Exam Preparations

CAT preparations are not so easy. People or the candidates think that there are lots of time and lots of attempts to clear the CAT exam.

But no, the people are wrong. The CAT exam is prepared in such a way that all the subjects are covered already in school.

If studied the right way then each candidate can successfully clear any exam not only just CAT exam.
