CENTAC Cutoff

Candidate wants admission in B. Tech seats in private and unaided professional colleges in Puducherry through CENTAC have to score above cut-off marks to eligible for admission. Admission committee decides the minimum score required for admission cut-off marks once it is set afterwards no one can change it.

Candidates belonging to the UT of Puducherry will be prepared after normalisation of marks obtained by the candidates in their H.Sc or any equivalent exam and will be used to fill 85% (382) of the 480 sanctioned seats.

Category wise cut-off marks are set for candidates. Like candidates belonging to reserved categories -SC, ST, OBC, and general category have different cut-off marks.Different colleges, institution & courses have different cut-off marks. Branches like civil engineering and mechanical engineering will also have their individual cutoffs.

On the basis of various factors such as a number of students appearing for the exam, difficulty level of exam, etc. cut-off marks are set in colleges. Below is given detail of cut-off marks important highlight, How cutoff score is arrived at, Purpose it serves etc are mentioned.

CENTAC Cutoff: Important Highlights

  1. CENTAC cut off will be decided by the centralised admission committee (CENTAC).

  2. Based on the cutoff score, seats will be allotted to “Government Quota Seats” in private and unaided professional colleges, including the minority colleges, in the UT of Puducherry.
  3. Only those candidates who score the cutoff score or higher will be offered seats. There are 480 sanctioned B. Tech seats on offer through CENTAC
  4. There will be separate cutoff lists for candidates belonging to the UT of Puducherry and candidates from other states / Union Territory
  5. The cutoff for Puducherry candidates will be prepared after normalising the scores obtained by candidates in their H. Sc or equivalent exam.
  6. In a case of candidates from other states / Union Territory, JEE Main scores will be used to prepare the cutoff list.
  7. There will also be the separate category-wise cut off for candidates belonging to reserved categories like OBC, ST and SC.
  8. Engineering departments -civil, mechanical, etc., will also release their department-wise cutoffs.

CENTAC Cutoff: How cutoff score is arrived at

The cutoff score is affected by a number of factors, some of them which are given here.

  1. The number of application received. For example, if civil engineering receives more applications than mechanical engineering, there is a fair probability that cutoff for former is higher than later
  2. Sanctioned seats for the course
  3. Marks obtained by the candidate in the merit list.

CENTAC Cutoff: Purpose it serves

  1. The cutoff of CENTAC will give students a fair estimate of their chances at admission and also get their preferred college or discipline.

  2. By consulting the cutoff, candidates will thus get a more realistic view of what the completion is like making it easier for them to pick colleges and courses where they stand a fair chance of admission.
