Hanuman JayantiHanuman Jayanti is celebrated as a birthday of Lord Hanuman, it is celebrated all over India in the Month of Chaitra according to the Hindu Calendar. Lord Hanuman is known for his strength and power. He was a great devotee and a follower of Lord Rama and played a crucial role in his life.

The Lord Hanuman is also known as Sankat Mochan who people remember in both good and bad times. In the Hindu religion, he is considered one of the most powerful gods. According to Hindu mythology, he is a son of ‘Pawan’ the god of winds, and ‘Anjanee’ he is often referred to as ‘Pawan Putra’ is blessed with the immense physical and mental strength that is greatly inspiring. Lord Hanuman is considered as the Eleventh Rudra Avatar of Lord Shiva.

We have seen in Ramayana that he is a real inspiration of strength and selfless devotion, and his ability and determination achieve impossible feats. He showed his unconditional love for Lord Rama, who also blessed him and reciprocated his devotion by treating him like a brother.

The Hanuman Jayanti is observed on full moon day, which is the 15th day of Shukla Paksha in the Hindu month of Chaitra (April-May). In different parts of India, Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated in a different month on account of variation in the dates of the Hindu calendar followed by different states.

In north India, the Sankat Mochan temple in Varanasi and Hanuman Garhi at Ayodhya are the venues of great celebration on this great day.

According to the calendar followed in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated in Margazhi Month which occurs in December- January.

In Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka, this day are coincide with the dark fortnight during the Vaisakha Month. In Andhra Pradesh, a forty-one days period culminates in Hanuman Jayanti.

As per the Oriya Calendar, the first day of Vishubha Sankranti in Baisakhi is celebrated as Hanuman Jayanti. For some communities, Hanuman Jayanti is the precursor to Diwali, as it is celebrated a day before Diwali.

How it is Celebrated

The celebrations on Hanuman Jayanti began early in the morning with the special Pooja being performed by devotees. The devotees perform the holy Pooja in temples dedicated to Lord Hanuman or at their homes. Indian people organize special prayers for lord hanuman to get rid of evil spirits.

The god is known for its magical powers. Prayers and hymns are sung by peoples all day. On this auspicious day of Hanuman, Jayanti people used to apply red sindoor from the lord’s feet on their foreheads. This is considered as being a ritual for good health and good luck.

Hanuman Jayanti is an occasion to remember the Lord Hanuman’s unbridled devotion to Lord Rama and his feats of daring. In their quest to fight against Ravana, lord hanuman led a monkey army and built a large bridge to Lanka.
