How to become an IDES Officer (Indian Defence Estate Service)

The management of cantonments is under the care of Indian Defence Estate Service. The appointment on completion of probation is that of Executive Officer Class I or Class II of cantonments. The senior most position in this service is that of Director General Defence Estates.

Indian Defence Estate Service Eligibility

The eligibility criterion for the Indian Defence Estates Service exam is actually similar as for other services. So if the cadets get successful in qualifying the civil services exam and then get allotted to the service according to their rank, he/she has to undergo a special training session.

Indian Defence Estate Service Recruitment and Training

The IDES officers are selected with the help of Civil Services Exam organized by UPSC commission, all the selected cadets for All India Service, Group A, and Group B are then sent for experiencing a training session. IDES comes under Group A services and the officers selected so go for NIDEM (National Institute of Defence Estates Management) at Delhi for the actual IDES training. The training at NIDEM is for the time period of 6 months and its objective is to make them learn the different departments of municipal control in Cantonment and Security Territory Management.

Indian Defence Estate Service Ranks their Salaries and Service Hierarchy is as following:

1) Junior time scale

Basic pay for them is usually around Rs. 8000- 13500

Grade pay would be Rs. 275

Post existing designation: Cantonment executive Officer (CEO) or Defence estates officer (DEO)

Deputy Asstt. DG in DG’s office or Asstt. Director in office of the Director

Defence Estates at Command headquarters

 

2) Senior time scale

Basic pay for them is usually around Rs. 10000- 15200

Grade pay would be Rs. 325

Post existing designation: Cantonment executive officer (CEO) or Defence Estates Officer (DEO)

Asstt. DG in DG’s office or Deputy Director in office of Director Defence Estates at command headquarters

 

3) Junior administrative grade

Basic pay for them is usually around Rs. 12000- 16500

Grade pay would be Rs. 375

Post existing designation: Cantonment executive officer (CEO) or Defence Estates Officer (DEO)

Deputy Director in DG’s office or Joint Director in of the Director Defence Estates at command headquarters

 

4) Selection grade

Basic pay for them is usually around Rs. 14300- 18300

Grade pay would be Rs. 400

Post existing designation: Cantonment executive officer (CEO) or Defence Estates Officer (DEO)

Deputy Director in DG’s office or Joint Director in of the Director Defence Estates at command headquarters

 

5) Senior administrative grade

Basic pay for them is usually around Rs. 18400- 22400

Grade pay would be Rs. 500

Post existing designation: Director Defence Estates at Command HQ or Addl. DG in DG’s office or Director, NIDEM

 

6) Higher administrative grade

(i) Basic pay for them is usually around Rs. 22400- 24500

Grade pay would be Rs. 525

Post existing designation: Senior Additional DG in DG’s office or Principal Director at command HQ

(ii) Director General Defence Estates

Basic salary is generally fixed at Rs. 26000

Post existing designation: Director General Defence Estates
