IAS Nishant Jain – UPSC 2015 Hindi Medium Topper Ranked 13

IAS Nishant Jain is one of the from golden list of UPSC result CSE, 2014. He has achieved great success in UPSC CSE 2014 with 13th rank. Nishant has topped in Hindi literature paper which he has chosen as the optional subject. Not only that but he has third highest marks for mains written the exam and has probably highest marks for essay paper. Nishant is from Meerut and youngest of three siblings, he gives all credit of his success to his family and especially to his elder brother Prashant Jain.

In his first attempt he could not clear the Prelims but next year again he tried and gave his best. He had started his career as a Hindi assistant in Lok Sabha secretariat. So he has chosen his writing medium as Hindi only.

When asked his preparation period, Nishant replied, from Metric only he wanted to study for UPSC but because of his economic conditions he could not do so and needed to earn after graduation.  IAS is not rocket science to think it so difficult he said.

Nishant says, essay paper and ethics (GS IV) are the game changers. So he suggests giving importance to both subjects.

The essay must be systematic and a well flowed, well-arranged thought process must be reflected by it. Various aspects should be considered while writing an essay as economical, geographical, social, and historical. There must be a clear connection between the two consecutive paragraphs.

Newspapers, TV/Radio discussions, websites are an important source of information.

His Optional subject was Hindi literature in which he has topped.

While personality test he has been asked for religion, society, languages, Indian economy, politics and lasts for 35 minutes.

‘Be yourself and do not try to pretend anything or imitate others’, Nishant says. ‘Avoid the grammatical errors’ he adds.

Role Models of  IAS Nishant Jain

Bhagwan Mahavir and Mahatma Gandhiji are his role models. Explaining why they, Nishant says both have common philosophies which take about humanity and they teach people to possess ahimsa i.e. non-violence.

Nishant’s Mantra for Aspirants:-

  • Think well, write well and answer well.
  • Time and energy are limited hence should not be wasted.
  • Your life is your message to the world so make it inspiring.
  • Remain in touch with the people who give you positive energy which will boost your courage. During the preparation one needs to be pressure-free. So he advised being engaged with employment prior preparation if required.

No doubt, Nishant’s success will encourage youth from the Hindi background.

    Very nice to know that even Hindi medium (taking Hindi as an optional subject) students can fetch such a high rank in UPSC. Well done! Inspiring story for Hindi medium students.
