The salary that an IAS/IPS/IFS officer gets on joining is around 45k gross and it comes to around 37/38k in hand.

Unlike others, I very firmly believe that one should ask and know all there is about such a job too. Does not matter what the job, you will have a family and you will need to take care of stuff.

Please do know everything about such jobs too. The quotations and motivations are helpful for preparation, post selection is a different matter and these things matter.

Not everyone wishes to work in private sector .There are some peoples who really want to join government services for serving billions of people in its nation.

The Salary of government services in India is considered as very low, many brilliant students ignore government jobs for a low salary. But when we talk about becoming an IAS it’s not just about salary, it is not a job to make crores of rupees but it is a job of serving our nation and its 1,267,401,849+ people.

This article will help you to get basic information about SALARY OF IAS OFFICER.

Basic terms to understand:

Pay scale it is not the total salary, but indicates the minimum and maximum basic pay of an employee.

Grade pay- government employees who receive grade pay, apart from basic pay.

The salary structure consists of following pay scales:

  • Junior scale
  • Senior time scale
  • Junior administrative grade
  • Selection grade
  • Super time scale
  • Above Super time scale

1) Junior scale:

Pay scale: ₹ 15,600-39,100

Grade pay: ₹ 5,400

Years of service: 4 years (approx)

Post: SDM ( Sub Divisional Magistrate ), SDO or Sub-Collector.


 

2) Senior time scale:

Pay scale: ₹ 15,600-39,100

Grade pay: ₹ 6,600

Years of service: 5 years (approx)

Post: District Magistrate (DM) or Collector or a Joint Secretary of a Government ministry.


 

3) Junior administrative grade:

Pay scale: ₹ 15,600-39,100

Grade pay: ₹ 7,600

Years of service: 9 years (approx)

Post: special secretary and various Head of the Government Departments.


 

4) Selection grade:

Pay scale: ₹ 37,400-67,000

Grade pay: ₹ 8,700

Years of service: 12 to 15 years (approx)

Post: Secretary to a Ministry.


 

5) Super time scale:

Pay scale: ₹ 37,400-67,000

Grade pay: ₹ 8,700

Years of service: 17 to 20 years (approx)

Post: Principal Secretary of a very important department of the government.


 

6) Above Super time scale:

Very rare and bright individuals are selected for salary above Super time Scale

Pay scale: ₹ 37,400-67,000

Grade: ₹ 12,000

The highest basic salary is Rs. 80,000 (fixed) for an IAS.

 

What is the salary of an IAS officer after 7th Pay Commisssion ?

As per the 7th pay commission, following is the pay scale distribution:

  • Junior Scale: Rs 50,000 to Rs 1,50,000 along with grade pay of Rs 16,500
  • Senior Time Scale: Rs 50,000 to Rs 1,50,001 along with grade pay of Rs 20,000
  • Junior Administrative Grade: Rs 50,000 to Rs 1,50,002 along with grade pay of Rs 20,000
  • Selection Grade: Rs 1,00,000 to Rs 2,00,000 along with grade pay of Rs 26,000
  • Super Time Scale: Rs 1,00,000 to Rs 2,00,000 along with grade pay of Rs 30,000
  • Above Super Time Scale: Rs 1,00,000 to Rs 2,00,000 along with grade pay of Rs 30,000
  • Apex Scale: Rs 12,25,000 (fixed)
  • Cabinet Secretary Grade: Rs 12,25,000 (fixed)

The salary structure of all Civil Services is almost same. The pay for IAS and other officers are as follows.

1. Cabinet Secretary Grade 90,000 (fixed) plus grade pay-Nil
2. Apex Scale 80,000 (fixed) plus grade pay-Nil
3. HAG + Scale (75000-79000)
4. Higher Administrative Grade (HAG) 67000-79000)
5. Above Super Time Sc 37,400-67,000 plus grade pay of 12,000
6. Super Time Scale 37,400-67,000 (after 15 years) plus grade pay of 10000
7. Selection Grade 37,400-67,000 ( after 13 years) plus grade Pay of 8700
8. Junior Administrative Grade (after 9 years) 15,600-39,100 plus grade pay of 7600
9. Senior Time Scale (after 4 years) 15,600-39,100 plus grade pay of 6600
10. Junior Time Scale (starting) 15,600-39,100 plus grade pay of 5400
In order to know their exact take-home salary, you must use following additional information.
1. The officers get a 3% increment every year in the month of July on their Basic Pay plus Grade Pay. So the starting salary of an IAS/IRS officers shall be (Rs 15600 + Rs 5400) + DA @ 120% = Rs 46200. Most officers retire at Apex Scale of Rs 80,000 and their take home salary is around Rs 176000.
2. The Cabinet Secretary is usually only from IAS and there is only one post of this rank in the country.
3. The IAS and IFS officers do get to extra increment for their scales at lower positions (Sl No 7,8 and 9) as compared to their other counterparts.
4. The IPS and IFoS officers have an additional pay scale (DIG level) between sl no 5 and 6 for Grade Pay 8900.
5. The officers get these scales as they are promoted in their cadres. The promotion is fast in IAS/IFS and IAAS and slower in other services.

 

Advantages

1. Most officers generally obtain an official vehicle from the first day of publication. If they do not, they get a transportation allowance to keep a vehicle
2. They receive government accommodation according to their law, which is generally good enough to meet their needs.
3. Obtain a CTL every two years.
4. Receive free medical care for themselves and the family
5. The previously appointed officials also receive a pension (if they retire after 20 years), or 50% of the last remuneration established by them. This pension continues until the end of the life of the government agent and 50% is later transferred to the spouse until death.

    I have completed my bachelors degree friends and now i am preparing for IAS.. ie ; UPSC
    I have always heard that UPSC asspirrants Hardly have time for any thing apart from only studying. Let me frankly speak to you all friends.. Each one of you can qualify for IAS. Although you all might be thinking how easily i am saying this to you all friends. But friends let me make you all one thing Very clear that each one of you have got the Best oppotunity to do many things for the people and this opportunity requires just your 100% not more than that….dont look like that friends 😊😊 Here 100%percent is what you did same in your 10th state board exams.. Just dont make this exam complex friends its soul and soul is always Very soft never hard. Its the only matter how we look at it.

    At last friends u all might be unaware of my preparation but friends let me make you all clear friends still today i treat my self the last among all the competitors of this year.. But friends just sharing you my thoughts with you all is just like motivating my self.. So rather than taking thanks from you
