IES Exam (Indian Engineering Services)

There are lots of services offered to engineer candidates in government field also. The Union Public Services Commission (UPSC) conducts examinations annually for the posts in Civil Engineering/Mechanical Engineering/Electrical Engineering/Electronics & Tele-Communication Engineering.

IES refers to the services that cater to the technical and managerial functions of the Government of India. The Union Public Services Commission (UPSC) conducts the IES exam and the Union Government of India appoints IES officers based on the recommendations made by the UPSC.

Eligibility for UPSC IES Exam:

Nationality:

Must be of Indian origin.

A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years.

Age limit relaxation:

  • For candidates belonging to scheduled castes, scheduled tribes age limit relaxation is up to 35 years.
  • For candidates belonging to Other Backward Classes who are eligible to avail of reservation applicable to such candidates, age limit relaxation is up to 33 years.
  • For the government servants of age limit relaxation is up to 35 years.
  • The upper age limit of 30 years will be relaxable up to 35 years.

Penalty for wrong answers ( in objective type papers)

There are four alternatives for each question of which only one right answer need to be chosen. In case candidate gives wrong answer, one third marks assigned to that question will be deducted.

If any answer is not given i.e. the question left blank then there is no penalty.

Minimum educational qualification:

Obtained a degree in Engineering from a university incorporated by an Act of the Central or State legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as Universities under Section 3 of the University Grant Commission Act, 1956.

Obtained a degree/diploma in Engineering from such foreign university/college/ institution and under such conditions as may be recognized by the Government.
