ILICAT is an abbreviation for (ILI) Indian Law Institute Common Admission Test (ILICAT) is a National level entrance examination for law students conducted by the  Indian Law Institute will be conducting  Indian Law Institute Common Admission Test for Law Admissions (ILICAT). It is organized for admission in five-year integrated undergraduate law courses and two-year postgraduate law courses in the state law colleges which are affiliated with this. ILICAT provides admission in postgraduate law programs including LLM from the Indian Law Institute.  This exam is commonly known as ILICAT. The ILICAT Law will be conducted in the third week of June 2018.

The admission to law colleges of India can be taken by qualifying ILICAT. There are various law colleges in the state offering various LLM seats for the postgraduates of ILICAT. The entrance exam that is ILICAT Law will be conducted in offline mode. The Instructions, Rules, and regulations are decided by the ILICAT Indian Law Institute (ILI) and in compliance with all the rules and regulations of ILICAT Law authorities and the relevant Authorities orders in place.

There are certain criteria that the candidate needs to satisfy even after passing the examination ILICAT. These are Eligibility Criteria and set as per the rules of government in ILICAT and is the way to admission in LLM courses of the affiliated colleges in India.

ILICAT Admission conducts entrance based admission to  LLM courses. The admissions to postgraduate law colleges were taken on the basis of ILICAT earlier. Candidates seeking admissions in the undergraduate and postgraduate law programs across the participating Indian law schools were needed to apply for ILICAT India 2018 in the third week of June 2018 (Note that this date is tentative).

ILICAT Admit Card

The admit card for ILICAT is provided online to the candidates appearing for the ILICAT. The admit card is accessed by the candidates on the ILICAT portal. The admit card for  PG was issued via online mode from the first week of May 2018. The admit card for ILICAT is issued by Indian Law Institute (ILI) that is conducting authorities of ILICAT.

The candidates can download the admit card from the official website of the Indian Law Institute (ILI). The admit card will not be sent via post to any of the appearing candidates. The admit card of ILICAT will contain following details like candidates name, date of birth, photo, signature, exam center and roll number. This information of the candidate will be based on the applicant’s ILICAT application form. In case any candidate finds any mistake in their ILICAT admit card 2018 details including their names and date of birth, they need to bring it to the notice of exam officials, immediately and get it verified or corrected by the authorities of ILICAT.

The candidates are advised to take print out of the admit card and take this admit card with themselves on the exam center. ILICAT Application forms

ILICAT application form is available in online mode. The University appoints authorities to conduct the centralized online counseling for the academic session of ILICAT 2018-19. All the applicants are required to fill the form in order to appear for ILICAT courses. ILICAT exam or application form is released by the ILICAT Indian Law Institute (ILI). Once the candidate has registered for the law school admission test, a confirmation email will be sent to his/her registered mail account.

The candidates filling the application form should make sure that they are filling the correct information otherwise they will not be allowed to sit for the examination. There are certain documents that are required during ILICAT application form filling. ILICAT Application fees

Once the candidate is done with filling the form online the next step is to pay the application fees.  To complete their ILICAT Counselling registration, candidates need to sign the counseling register and pay a non-refundable processing fee of some specific amount.  Different categories have fees for the application form of ILICAT.

 The payment can be done through net banking and various other options: Debit Card/ Demand Draft/ Bankers Cheque/ Pay Order. The payment mode is only online and Online payment can be done through Net Banking/Credit Card/Debit Card. The fees once paid by the candidate will not be refunded in any case.

ILICAT 2018 Eligibility Criteria

There is certain rules or conditions set by the official authority of the ILICAT authorities which an applicant needs to satisfy to appear for the ILICAT. The applicants can look for all the eligibility criteria one needs to satisfy and should contain all the documents proving that applicants satisfying those criteria.

Here are some of the criteria which an applicant should satisfy:

Candidates must be passed 12th or equivalent examination in English medium

    • Candidates need to have secured a minimum 50% marks in the qualifying examination
    • Candidates must not be more than 20 years of age as on August 1 of year of admission
    • The candidates should at least score a minimum of 50% marks in their 10 2 or the higher secondary examination to be eligible to sit for ILICAT 2018 entrance exam.
    • Those candidates who have qualified in any other law entrance test conducted by the state or the National level are not required to sit for ILICAT 2018 and can just produce the score.
    • Candidates who want to take admission in 1 year or 2 year LLM program offered by Indian Law Institute must necessarily fulfill the admission requirements including age criteria and academic qualification to name a few.

Reservation for ILICAT

The reservation for the candidates who are from different categories has different rules set by ILICAT. The rules and regulations are defined by the ILICAT. All the candidates must strictly follow the rules defined by the ILICAT for  PG courses.

BPL (SC/ST category)

NOTE: The candidate should note that the in-case of any discrepancy the candidate’s admission will be canceled and the seat will not be given to the candidate instead will be allotted to any other candidate.


ILICAT Result 2018 for LLB courses.  The result will be announced online on the official portal of ILICAT by Indian Law Institute (ILI). The result will consist of the merit list on the basis of marks of the candidates. The candidates will be called on the basis of merit list for the counseling. The ILICAT authority releases result for different courses provided by the university. The Result of ILICAT has been announced by Indian Law Institute (ILI). The test scores and result of  ILICAT Indian Law Institute (ILI) will be reported on a percentile basis. As per ILICAT India 2018 result, each test-takers’ performance will be compared to others of candidates group, classified as the five-year integrated undergraduate and two-year postgraduate.

The correct number of questions answered by the candidate will decide the result. There will be a total of 144 questions and candidate will be able to tick maximum correct out of it. Applicants should download the result and should preserve the score till the admission procedure is complete for further use in ILICAT.

ILICAT Counselling

The applicants scored marks, which are above the cutoff, are eligible for the admission procedure in the ILICAT and after that counseling procedure starts. The list will be released for the candidates who get selected for the admission procedure through a Particular defined procedure. The counseling will be conducted via offline mode. The counseling for ILICAT is conducted by Procedure defined by Indian Law Institute (ILI).

All the candidates will be assigned a center for the counseling process and candidates have to report to their respective center and on the given date by the authorities of ILICAT. Candidates will also have to present a list of official documents for verification and xerox copies of the same for submission. Candidates should ensure they submit only the correct information at the time of ILICAT Counselling process as it will be used for their seat verification.

The counseling is done on the basis of rank provided to the candidate. The counseling will be on the basis of the candidate’s rank. When the candidates are called for the counseling procedure the candidates have to take original documents with them. The documents will go through the verification process by the authorities. There will be numerous seats available for the LLB counseling to be filled by the candidates by clearing ILICAT entrance examination.

After the successful tests and verification, the candidate can appear for the admission in the ILICAT. It is important for the candidate to be present physically for the counseling and if the candidates fail to be present on the day of the counseling than the candidate’s seat will be canceled. Nowadays as provided by the online option the candidate can choose and fill their preferences of colleges and courses online in the official website of ILICAT.

The seats are allotted purely on the basis of marks secured in the entrance exam and merit list prepared on that marks. The ILICAT counseling will be done in offline mode only.

Candidates will be required to produce the following documents in original with two sets of self-attested photocopies at the time of admission.

  • ILICAT 2018  Scorecard/ILICAT 2018 admission letter issued by Indian Law Institute (ILI).
  • Self-Attested copy of Marks Statement of 10thand 12th board examinations
  • Self-Attested copy of Character Certificate from the School last attended
  • Self-Attested copy of Transfer Certificate

ILICAT Exam Pattern

Different academic courses have different exam pattern offered by the Institute. The exam ILICAT conducted by Indian Law Institute (ILI) will announce the exam pattern for their own Institute differently. The undergraduate entrance exam will be based on OMR examination. The exam will be online that is it will be an online examination. There will be the total of 144 questions which will be multiple choice questions (objective based). ILICAT will have 3 sections. The ILICAT Examination will be standard for the entrance examination. ILICAT total score out of 160 marks and is divided into 3 parts. ILICAT entrance exam time duration is 2 hours and 30 minutes.

    • Exam Date: ILICAT Entrance Exam will be conducted in the third week of June 2018.
    • Exam Mode: The examination was organized in offline mode (pen and paper-based test).
    • Question Paper Type: The question paper contained objective type questions with four options.
    • Paper Language: The question paper was asked in the English language.
    • Sections: The question paper was comprised of different sections such as Legal Aptitude and Legal Reasoning, General Knowledge with Current Affairs, Logical and Analytical Reasoning, English and Mathematical Aptitude.
    • Number of Questions: Total 144 questions was asked in the examination.


  • For Part 1: One mark will be given for every correct response. If you have marked any wrong answer then -1/4 marks gets deducted for each wrong attempt.
  • For Part 2: Marking scheme for Part 2 is as similar to Part 1.
  • For Part 3: 5 marks will be awarded to the candidate for every correct answer. This part doesn’t include negative marking.
  • Total marks of the question paper will be 160.
