JMET


JMET is the abbreviation for joint national management test. JMET is a standardised national level entrance exam. This is a postgraduate exam and is generally conducted for the IIMs for the management courses. This exam is held every year generally in the month of May.  The exam is conducted by Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs). The test is conducted for admission in MBA. The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) have decided to do away with their decade-old entrance test for postgraduate management courses popularly know as JMET and adopt the Common Admission Test (CAT)

This exam is conducted every year anywhere in Indian Institutes of Management and hence only one national level exam is conducted. JMET entrance exam for admission in postgraduate management program is conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management that is Programmes in Management offered by IITs. Currently, IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, and IIT Roorkee offer Programmes in Management. This entrance exam is conducted for those candidates planning to enrol as the student pursuing MBA. By this process, the candidates will get admission in undergraduate degree and for postgraduate.

The national-level test is conducted for admission to a number of the postgraduate management programme in Nation covering the numerous seats. The score will be accepted in the various number of colleges and more.

The candidates who applied for the entrance examination can check for the admit card on the official website of JMET. The admit card will be downloaded by the candidate from the official website of JMET. The download of admit card will be for a limited period of time.

The candidates will have to give information or log in using id and personal information to access the admit card. After validation in tont site, the candidate will be allowed to download the admit card. There will be the deadline for downloading JMET admit card and candidate are requested to download before the due date.

After 4-15 days of registrations last date, candidates will receive an email from ATTEST asking them to select their test centre, exam date & time slot for the examination. All the candidates will have to carry the admit card to the examination hall or the online examination centre. In case candidate loses or forget to bring the admit card to the centre the candidate NOT be allowed to sit for the examination. The admit card is mandatory to give the examination.

Some important steps to Download JMET Admit Card


  • Visit the official website of IITs (management).
  • Look for the link specifying “JMET 2018 Admit Card” in the notifications and click on it.
  • Enter the personal details like Name, Registration Number and Date of Birth.
  • Click on the Submit button.
  • The admit card will be displayed on the screen.
  • Check all the details mentioned in it and take out multiple printed copies for future reference.

JMET Application Form


JMET application form for the session 2018. The application form registration will be available in the second week of  March. The JMET application form will be available online only and no other mode is available. The JMET registration form will be available from the third week of April 2018.

 All the candidates will have to fill all the details of their own in the application form of JMET. The filled information should be rechecked by the candidates to avoid the mistakes. The recheck is necessary to avoid miss typing and other chances of errors. Once the checking is done the candidate will now submit the application form and after submitting the application form the candidate will not be allowed to edit further and entries can’t be changed.

All the candidates applying should make sure that they have appeared for JMET and have qualified it. The candidates passed the exam with flying colours can only appear for the counselling and registration process further.

The application form will include details like name, number etc that is personal details, academic details, the area you belong to and other related and relevant details. After that, fill up the details such as courses studied and obtained marks percentage, age, the address for communication, etc. Upload a 35X45 vivid photo of the candidate. Once after that, pay the application fee via Debit card/Credit Card/Internet banking. After transferring the payment successfully, you will get a receipt on your registered email address and Mobile Phone. This details will be filled first and then the procedure will be completed by paying the application fees.

Eligible candidates could then fill the JMET 2018 application form following the steps shared below:

  • Candidates had to visit the official website of the exam to access the online application form of JMET 2018.
  • The JMET 2018 application form fee had to be paid in advance through online mode only. Once the fee has been submitted and the acknowledgement received, the candidates would have an option of filling the application form by mentioning their personal and educational details.
  • After completing the form filling process, candidates were guided through the subsequent process wherein they had to upload their coloured passport size photograph along with their signatures.
  • a photo (Photo image size = width x height = 4 cm x 5 cm, resolution = 200 dpi)
  • signature (Signature image size = width x height = 5 cm x 1 cm, resolution = 200 dpi)

Application fees


The counselling fee of JMET 2018 is  Rs. 750/- for general category candidates and it is Rs. 350/- for reserved category (SC/ST/PD) candidates. There can be different modes of payment for the counselling fees. The fee can be paid by Credit/Debit Card/Net banking.

  • The application fee can be paid by Credit Card/Debit Card (RuPay/Visa/MasterCard/Maestro), Internet Banking, IMPS, Cash Cards/ Mobile Wallets).
  • The fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.

The counselling registration or any kind of fee will NOT be returned to any of the candidates under any circumstances.

JMET Eligibility Criteria


Eligibility criteria are the set of conditions that a candidate needs to satisfy when appearing for a particular examination. The rules are by the examination conducting authorities only.  There are some set of rules that are mentioned below to provide reading candidates with the details and conditions of the examination:

IIT Bombay: Shailesh J Mehta School of Management
Programme: Master of Management (M. Mgt.)
Eligibility: First class Bachelor’s  degree in engineering  (or equivalent)  or first class  Master’s  degree in Science (as given by the Institute/University) with  60%  marks in aggregate or minimum CGPI of 6.5 out of 10. Candidates with  M.Sc. must have 60% in bachelor’s as well as in M.Sc. degree. Qualifying degree of candidates with M.Tech. would be B.Tech./B.E. only.  (Relaxation of 5% in marks or equivalent in CGPI for SC/ST candidates)
IIT Delhi: Department of Management Studies
Programmes: Master of Business Administration (MBA) with focus on Management Systems, Master of Business Administration (MBA) with focus on Telecommunication Systems Management
Eligibility: Candidates with minimum 60% marks in aggregate or 6.75/10 CGPA in Bachelor’s degree in any branch of Engineering/ Technology/Architecture/Pharmacy/Agriculture Engg. (minimum 4 years after 10+2) or Master’s degree in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Applications, Electronic Science, Environmental Science, Operations Research, Computational/Information Science, Agriculture, Commerce, Economics are eligible to apply. (Relaxation of 5% in marks or equivalent in CGPA for SC/ST candidates)
IIT Kanpur: Department of Industrial & Management Engineering
Programme: Master of Business Administration (MBA)
Eligibility: A Bachelor’s degree in any branch of engineering or technology (AICTE approved) from a University/Institute with at least 60% of marks or grade point average of 6.0 on a scale of 10.0.  AMIE or similar distance learning qualification is not eligible for this programme. Candidates with Architecture degree can apply provided they have taken Mathematics at 10+2 level. SC/ST candidates who qualify  JMET and pass the basic qualifying degree as above are eligible to apply irrespective of marks / CPI  in the qualifying degree examination.
IIT Kharagpur: Vinod Gupta School of Management
Programme: Master of Business Administration (MBA)
Eligibility: A candidate who has either secured or is likely to secure a first class Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology or a first class Master’s degree in Science (with Mathematics or Statistics at Bachelor’s level) or a first class Master’s degree in Economics or Commerce (with Mathematics or Statistics at Bachelor’s level) is eligible for admission.   The School follows Government of India norms regarding reservation of seats for qualified SC/ST/OBC candidates and persons with disability.
IIT Kharagpur: Department of Humanities and Social Sciences
Programme:  Master of Human Resource Management
Eligibility: First class bachelor’s in any branch of engineering/Technology or First class in master’s degree in Science, Commerce, or Humanities and Social Sciences. The Department follows the Government of India norms for reservation of seats for SC/ST and OBC category students and persons with disability. Selection is based on application rating, JMET performance, group discussion and personal interview. Appropriate weightage is given for work experience.
IIT Madras: Department of Management Studies
Programme: Master of Business Administration (MBA)
Eligibility: Candidates with B.E./ B.Tech. or equivalent to the first class or equivalent from a recognized Institution or University OR a Master’s degree or equivalent in any discipline with first class or equivalent from a recognized Institution or University are eligible to apply. The Government of India norms will apply for eligibility and admission of applicants from the reserved categories.
IIT Roorkee: Department of Management Studies
Programme: Master of Business Administration (MBA)
Eligibility: Candidates with Bachelor’s degree in any  discipline of Engineering/Technology with first class or its equivalent or a Master’s degree with first class or equivalent in any discipline from a recognized Institute/University with at least 60% marks for General & OBC category candidates and 55% marks for SC/ST category candidates in aggregate or CGPA of 6.00 on a 10 point scale for General & OBC category candidates and 5.50 on a 10 point scale for SC/ST category candidates are eligible to apply.

JMET Counselling and Admission Procedure


The counselling date and procedure for entrance exam counselling will release on its official website of JMET.This counselling also contains Admission Procedure for this the student   The candidates are provided with the address and contact information so that the candidate can get the required information properly.

The candidate has to fill state form for the admission procedure.  This process will be conducted by the competent authority for allotting seats to the candidates. The counselling process will take place on the basis of merit prepared as per the candidate’s score on the entrance exam.

Based on the exam result, the institute prepare final merit list and the names of candidates added to the final merit list will later call for counselling secession.  Verification of the candidate will require a valid mobile no. fr new user or even for registered user. There will be more than one round of counselling so the candidate who fails to register in the 1st round of counselling will not be permitted to register in 2nd and subsequent rounds of counselling.

The final selection for JMET 2018 will be made on the basis of the following parameters and weight-ages:

The documents that are required at the time of counselling should be self-attested. The documents required for JMET counselling are:

  • Degree marks memos & pass certificate
  • Intermediate or its equivalent Memo-cum-Pass Certificate
  • SSC or its equivalent Marks memo
  • IX to Degree Study Certificates
  • Transfer Certificate (TC)
  • Income Certificate issued on or after January 1, 2018, by competent authority, if applicable. Caste Certificate issued by competent authority, if applicable.
  • Physically Challenged (PH)/ National Cadet Corps (NCC)/ Children of Armed Forces Personnel (CAP)/ Sports and Games/ Minority certificate, if applicable.
  • Residence certificate of either of parents in Telangana for a period of 10 years in case of Non-local candidates.
  • Residence certificate of candidates for a period of 7 years preceding to qualifying examination in the case where the candidate has no institutionalised education.

JMET Admission Procedure includes following three steps. The first stage will let the aspirant to the next stage and then to the final one which facilitates the final admission.

JMET Results


The result of JMET will be provided on the official website of the JMET. The date of release of the result will be after 3-4 weeks of the exam. The list will be category wise merit list only for those candidates who are eligible. The merit list will be displayed on the University official website.

The exam will be written exam of JMET and this will be conducted in the first week of March 2018. The paper will consist of 120 multiple choice questions. Mode of the exam will be pen-paper based. The exam conducting the authority University of Vignan, Telangana, India conducts the exam once in a year to offer admission for undergraduate and postgraduate courses at colleges participating in the JMET.

Exam pattern is as follows:

  • Pen-paper based exam.
  • The time duration to complete the exam is 3 hours
  • Each correct answer will be rewarded 1 mark and 0.25 marks will be deducted for the wrong response.
  • The exam will be conducted only in the English language
  • There will be 30 questions each from different sections viz., Verbal Communication, Logical Reasoning, Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation.
