KPSC 2018: Syllabus, Eligibility Criteria, Pattern, Preparation

The State Government of Kerala conduct’s the Kerala Public Service Commission (KPSC) Examination. Every year the Kerala Public Service Commission (KPSC) conducts various recruitment examinations to select experienced candidates for different posts.

So, Aspirants if you want to clear PSC Exam you can complete PSC Syllabus so that you can prepare well for the examinations.

Eligibility Criteria of KPSC?


  • Must be a citizen of India;
  • Subject of Nepal
  • Subject of Bhutan
  • A Tibetan who has migrated to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India
  • Person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda and United Tanzanian Republic (former Tanganyika and Zanzibar) with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Age Limit for KPSC:

  • Age limit of candidates will be decided as per the organization’s norms and rules.
  • The upper age limit prescribed shall be raised by five years in the case of candidates belonging to any of the Scheduled Castes, by three years in the event of candidates belonging to any of the Other Backward Classes.
  • The maximum age limit laid down for appointment to any post shall not apply in the case of candidates who are converted to other religions or Scheduled Tribes.
  • Where age alone stands in the way of recruitment of candidates belonging to any of the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes or adult members of the Scheduled Castes converted to other religions and their children, or Scheduled Tribes converted to other religions the upper age limit will be relaxed to fill up the quota reserved for them.
  • Relaxation of age will be allowed to all provisional employees of the Kerala Government (whether they continue in service or relieved from service)

Educational Qualification for KPSC:

  • Candidates should have required educational qualification according to the post. Most of the posts require the aspirants to have a graduation degree from a recognized university. Physical fitness is also necessary according to the various posts.
  • A Degree in Naval Architecture from a recognized university and Experience for not less than three years in the basic design, construction and maintenance of floating crafts in shipyards recognized by the Mercantile Marine Department.
  • In the absence of candidates with the above qualification a degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized University.
  • Five years’ experience in basic design, construction and maintenance of floating crafts in shipyards recognized by the Mercantile Marine Department. Candidates with experience in ship repairing will be preferred.

How to prepare for KPSC?

  • Make your schedule of study give appropriate time to each and every topic.
  • Read newspaper, magazine, etc. To increase your awareness of current affairs just keep an eye on reading the various newspapers, watch television for breaking the news.
  • Keep yourself up to date. Just go solving previous papers, make a habit of marking the key point.
  • Make your notes so that it will be easy while revising at last moments.
  • Take the help of online assessment it will be better to boost your confidence level.
  • Self-assessment is an important preparation. Plan your studies at least two months before the exam.
  • Questions can be asked from every nook and corner of the subject and therefore it is not all advisable to omit any chapter or area.
  • Practice as many mock tests as possible in close to examination environment as possible. During preparation avoid a fatty food just and avoid anxiety before the exam.
  • Make a strict timetable for you on a daily basis. You have required daily 8-10 hrs. Study for mains as very less time has left.
  • Focus on good topics. Study all Government schemes of Kerala state with particular attention and keep an eye on central schemes as well.
  • During exams try to write the answer in points. Underline the key points of your answer
