M Sivaguru Prabakaran, UPSC Topper, Slept on Platforms, Overcame Poverty

M Sivaguru PrabakaranThis Friday, this son of an alcoholic father who fought all odds to pursue his education cracked the UPSC civil services examination 2017 and secured the 101st rank among 990 who made the cut.

It was in 2004 when M Sivaguru Prabakaran saw J Radhakrishnan for the first time. The Secretary of the Department of Health of the Government of Tamil Nadu was the collector of the district of Thanjavur also when the tragic fire at the Kumbakonam school and was also the first officer of the NIC that I have ever seen. It was at that time, Prabhakaran began to nurture the dream of joining civil services.

Becoming an IAS officer was still a distant dream, especially after being forced to give up engineering after class 12.

With a father drowning in alcohol, and his mother and sister struggling to spend the day manufacturing and selling coconut leaves, advice and payment of training fees is not an important priority.

But on Friday, the son of an alcoholic father who fought all the hurdles to pursue his UPSC civics education test crushed in 2017 and got the 101st place among 990 that made the cut.

Originally from the village Melaottankadu in Pattukottai in Thanjavur District Prabhakaran worked hard for two years as a sawmill operator and even practiced agriculture, simply in order to financially support his family and save as much as possible for his education.

“I was not ready to give up my dreams,” he told the Times of India.

Only four years later, when he financed his younger brother’s engineering education and helped his older sister get married, he returned to education.

I went to get into the engineering stream at the Thanthai Periyar Vellore Government Technology Institute in 2008. Even when I was facing a lot since I was not struggling commonly English Given Tamil education media Her background.

Shortly after, I decided to go to Chennai with the hope of passing the IIT-Madras entrance exams.

“A friend referred me to a tutor at St. Thomas Mount who trained disadvantaged students like me,” he says.

Often without a place of residence in Chennai, Prabhakaran went to the mound every weekend to take refuge and take refuge in the St Thomas Mount station.

Then he would return to Vellore during the week to go to university and work during his resting hours at a mobile charging station.

Prabhakaran’s hard work has paid off after successfully cracking the IIT-M entry and completed his M.Tech program with a ranking in 2014 and a 9.0 GPA!

This brave young man who did not allow anyone to deviate from his goal solved the UPSC exams on his fourth attempt. He hopes his story will help many more people in his hometown and across the country to never give up on his dreams.

Other members of the state that made the cup include V Keerthi Vasan in 29, L Madhubala in 71 and S Balachander in 129.
