SCRIP : SASEC Road Connectivity Investment Programme

SCRIP (SASEC Road Connectivity Investment Programme) is a loan agreement of $300 million under a programme signed between the Asian Development Bank and the Union Ministry of Finance. SCRIP is a strategic initiative to achieve regional integration among the members of the South Asia Sub-regional Economic Cooperation (SASEC) group by improving road connectivity within the North Bengal-North Eastern Region in India. The members of this group are Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Nepal.

CBRN Terrorism : Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Terrorism

CBRN Terrorism was one of the subthemes of Conference on Counter-Terrorism held in Jaipur, Rajasthan from March 19 to 21, 2015. CBRN terrorism is a threat to public health and safety, national security and economic and political stability on the global level.

Benjamin Netanyahu appointed as Israel PM : Israel’s President Mr. Reuven Rivlin appointed Mr. Benjamin Netanyahu with the responsibility of forming the 34th government of Israel on March 25, 2015. With his fourth term Mr. Netanyahu, becomes the longest-serving Prime Minister of Israel. Mr. Netanyahu of Likud Party won the Israel elections 2015 on March 18, 2015.

David Hale nominated as Ambassador to Pakistan : US President Mr. Barack Obama on March 11, 2015 nominated veteran diplomat Mr. David Hale as next Ambassador to Pakistan. His appointment was confirmed by the US Senate and he succeeds Mr. Cameron Munter. He has been the US Ambassador to Lebanon since 2013. Mr. Hale previously served as the Special Envoy for Middle East Peace from 2011 to 2013.

Vikas Swarup appointed as MEA Spokesman : Diplomat Mr. Vikas Swarup was appointed as the official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on March 25, 2015. Mr. Swarup, a 1986 batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer is also author of the bestseller debut novel ‘Q&A’, on which the Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire was based. Mr. Swarup succeeds incumbent spokesperson Mr. Syed Akbaruddin and takes the charge of the office on April 18, 2015.

KM Mani appointed as Chairman of the Empowered Committee of State FM’s on GST : Kerala Finance Minister Mr. K.M. Mani was appointed as the Chairman of the Empowered Committee of State Finance Ministers on Goods and Services Tax (GST) by the Union Finance Ministry on March 24, 2015. The post had been vacant since the former Finance Minister of J&K Mr. Abdul Rahim quit the position after the defeat of National Conference in the J&K Assembly elections held in December 2014.

Sir Venkatraman Ramakrishnan named as President of Britain’s Royal Society : Nobel laureate Sir Venkatraman Ramakrishnan, on March 18, 2015, was named as the President of Britain’s prestigious Royal Society, a communion of the many of the world’s most distinguished scientists. Mr. Ramakrishnan, who will take up the post on the December 1, 2015, succeeds geneticist Sir Paul Nurse, also a Nobel laureate.

Dr. Alka Beotra nominated as member of WAADS executive board : India’s Dr. Alka Beotra has been nominated as a member of the World Association of Anti-Doping Scientists’ (WAADS) executive board. She is the-only Asian in the six-member executive board of WAADS and will serve for a tenure of 3 years starting from March 2015. Dr. Alka Beotra is Scientific Director of National Dope Testing Laboratory (NDTL).
