Service Selection Board (SSB) Interview Eligibility – Check Here

SSB stands for Service Selection Board (SSB). Service Selection Board was setup by the Defense Ministry. Here the authorities undertake the SSB Interview to judge potential candidates for appointment in the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
The criteria on which the candidates are judged are their intelligence, personality, compatibility, and potential. Mental knowledge is given more importance than physical personality, but still, physical personality is like icing on the cake.


The first and foremost requirements are marital status. Unmarried graduates who successfully clear the Combined Defense Services Examination which is conducted by UPSC are selected for the SSB Interview.

Eligibility criteria for males and female candidates are slightly different.
For males: The candidate should be born on or after 2nd January 1991 and not after 1st January 1996.

For Females: The female candidate should be born on or after 2nd January 1990 and on or before 1st January 1996. She should be an unmarried or issueless widow.


Naval Academy: For naval academy, a bachelor’s degree in engineering is a must.
Air Force Academy: A degree in B.Sc with Physics and Mathematics; B.E. and B.Tech.
Indian Military Academy and Officers Training Academy: Degree or equivalent from a recognized university.

Title of the post: After medical checkup and training, the candidates are seated as Commissioned Officers.


Candidates are suggested for the Service Selection Board interview through call letters. In case if any candidate is unable to receive a letter, even after clearing UPSC exam should contact to the concerned officer.

Service Selection Board Examination Chart:

SSB Examination process comprises of Five-day personality and intelligence test schedule is as follows:
Day 1: Basic Intelligence Test
Day 2: Psychological Test
Day 3 & Day 4: The Group Testing Officers (GTO) Activities
Day 5: Conference

Note: Personal Interview (PI) can be taken on any day between second to fourth days.
