Many of our Teenagers, Parents, and Students are very confused about the Stream Selection for IAS IPS UPSC Exam after 10th or 12th. This post will help you to decide which branch or stream will be decided for IAS/UPSC Preparation as per your interest.

India’s most prestigious exam is conducted by UPSC for IAS every year.

To apply for this, the candidate must be:

  • Graduate
  • Between the age limit of 32 years
  • For candidates belonging to SC/ST age limit is until 37 years
  • Candidates belonging to OBCs are eligible for up to 35 years.

When the stream of study to prepare for IAS is concerned it is advisable to choose the subjects of your expertise and interest. You can choose any field and any subjects you like, but you have to pay full dedication to that and have good knowledge of subjects such as General Studies and English.

Given below is the syllabus of the IAS exam which will help you to understand and prepare for the examination.

An IAS examination comprises of the preliminary exam (CSAT) and Mains examination.

STEP 1:

Civil Service Aptitude Test

Paper 1

  • Current events of national and international importance
  • Indian and World Geography- physical, social, economic geography of India and the world
  • History of India and Indian national movement
  • Economic and social development – sustainable development, poverty, inclusion, demographics, social sector initiatives, etc.
  • Indian Polity and governance – constitution, political system, Panchayati raj, public policy, Rights issues, etc.
  • General issues on environmental ecology, bio-diversity and climate change
  • General Science.

Paper 2

  • Comprehension
  • Interpersonal skills including communication skills
  • Logical reasoning and analytical ability
  • Decision-making and problem-solving
  • General mental ability
  • Basic numeracy numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc. (Class X level),
  • Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency, etc. –Class X level)
  • English language comprehension skills (Class X level)

Step 2:

Mains Exam:

For the Mains, there are some compulsory subjects and one optional subject.

1. Compulsory subjects are:

  1. Indian language,
  2. English
  3. Essay
  4. General studies.

After 10th you have enough time, you should consider your studies and be an expert in it. Learn whatever you want but learn it with full interest. Take one step at a time. Taking care of each and every step is always better for a successful career.
