Tripura Public Service Commission (TPSC)

The State Government of Tripura conducts TPSC (Tripura Public Service Commission) Examination. TPSC is one of the competitive examinations carried out to enrol various posts under the Tripura Government sector, and those posts are as follows Director (Group A), Blind Educator (Group C), and Foreman (Group B): 01, Technical Assistant (Group B).

Eligibility Criteria for TPSC 


  • A candidate must be a citizen of India as defined in part-II of the Constitution of India.

Age Limit

  • A candidate shall not be below 21 years and over 40 years old on the first day of the month in which applications are invited, by Madhyamik, Higher Secondary or equivalent examination Certificate/ Admit Card

Age Relaxation

  • Provided that the upper age limit is relaxed able by five years for the candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Differently able Persons (PH) and Government servants and any other relaxation as admissible for competitive examinations.

Educational qualification 

  • A candidate must hold a Degree from a recognized University.

Exam Pattern of TPSC

The TPSC Examination will be conducted in two stages

  • Preliminary Examination
  • Main Examination followed by an Interview

Preliminary Exam

The Preliminary Examination will consist of only one paper which has the weightage of 200 marks

  • General Studies

The paper will be of an Objective Type consisting of 200 Multiple- Choice Question.

Main Exam (Total 8 papers)

The main examination questions are of the subjective type.  There are five papers each carrying 100 marks.

  • English Essay & Précis writing
  • English Composition
  • Bengali Composition and Translation Or Alternative English
  • General Knowledge & Current Affairs
  • The Constitution of India and the Five Years Plan

Optional Paper

Candidates are required to take up three papers from the following list

Personality Test (Interview)

  • The Test shall be to assess the personal qualities of the candidate’s e.g. intellectual ability, social taints, interest in current affairs, critical power of judgment, variety, and depth of interest, the ability for leadership, and moral integrity.

Syllabus of TPSC

  • English Composition

Question on English Composition will cover Synonyms, Antonyms, use of common Phrase & Idioms., use of appropriate Prepositions and Articles, Comprehension, Ordering of words in a sentence, ordering of penalties, spotting of errors, use of appropriate and qualifying words, etc.

  • History of Modern India & Indian National Movement for the period 1857 to 1947.

In History, emphasis will be on the broad general understanding of the subject in its Social, Economic and Political aspects. Questions on the Indian National Movement will relate to the nature and character of the Nineteenth Century resurgence, growth of Nationalism and attainment of Independence.

  • Geography of India

Question on the Geography of India will relate to Physical, Social & Economic Geography of the country including the main features of Indian Agriculture and Natural Resources.

  • Geography, History & Culture of Tripura

 In Geography of Tripura, emphasis will be on its natural resources with particular reference to its soil, forest, water, and power. The period from 1857 to 1949 will be considered for setting a question on the History of Tripura. There will be questions on different Tribes, Languages, Customs, Festivals, Important Historic sites, etc.

  • Indian Polity and Economy

 Indian Polity and Economy will test the knowledge of the candidates in the Country’s Political system and Constitution of India, Panchayati Raj, Community development, Economic development during Plan periods.

  • General Science and Environment

Questions on General Science and Environment will cover general appreciation and understanding of science and environment including matters of everyday observation and experience along with general awareness of Information & Communication Technology as may be expected of a well-educated person who has not made a special study of any particular scientific discipline.

  • General Mental Ability

On General, Mental Ability Questions will be set on logical perception, understanding, natural conclusion, etc.

  • Numerical Ability

Questions on Numerical Ability will be similar to that of the Compulsory Mathematics paper at the Madhyamik Examination of Tripura Board of Secondary Education.

How to prepare for TPSC
  • Make your schedule of study give appropriate time to each topic.
  • Read newspapers, magazines, etc. To increase your awareness of current affairs just keep an eye on reading the various newspapers, watch television for breaking the news.
  • Keep yourself up to date. Just go solving on previous papers, make a habit of marking the key point.
  • Make your notes so that it will be easy while revising at the last moments.
  • Take the help of an online assessment will be better to boost your confidence level.
  • Self-assessment is an important preparation. Plan your studies at least two months before the exam.
  • Questions can be asked from every nook and corner of the subject and therefore it is not advisable to omit any chapter or area.
  • Practice as many mock tests as possible in a close examination environment as possible. During preparation avoid fatty food just and avoid anxiety before the exam.
  • Make a strict timetable for you daily. You have required daily 8-10 hrs. Study for mains as very little time has left.
  • Focus on healthy topics. Study all Government schemes of Tripura state with special attention and keep an eye on central schemes as well.
  • During exams try to write the answer in points.
  • Underline the key points of your answer
