CATCAT 2020 is an abbreviation for Common Admission Test. CAT Exam is a computer-based exam held in India. It is a very crucial examination for the students who want to study the various management courses all over India. It isn’t like the old traditional way of giving an exam with the help of pen and paper. This test maps the student according to the sections cleared. The sections include Quantitative Ability (QA), Data Interpretation (DI), Verbal Ability (VA), Logical Reasoning (LR), and Reading Comprehension (RC). The IIMs i.e. the Indian Institute of Management started this exam to test the candidate on the various categories. This exam helps to choose a proper candidate for the Business Course.

It is very critical to passing this exam. This is one of the toughest exams in India. This test is conducted by the IIMs i.e. the Indian Institutes of Management on a rotation basis. Each State has an IIM associated with the State.

In 2011, the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc) would also use CAT scores instead of Joint Management Entrance Tests (JMET) to select the candidates for their management programs starting from 2012-2014.

Pen and Paper-Based CAT exam

Before 2009, CAT (Common Admission Test) exam was a pen and paper-based test conducted on a single day for all Candidates. The pattern, duration, number of questions somewhat changes each year. The number of questions can increase or decrease and it all depends on the IIM.

On 1 May 2009, it was announced that CAT exams would be conducted on a computer-based test. Conducting an online test was given to the American Firm Prometric. They were given the responsibility to conduct online tests. The first online test, however, has many technical snags. The technical issues were very serious. It was so serious that it prompted the Government of India to give a report from the Governor.

The Exams are held on a rotation basis CAT 2015 was conducted by the TCS i.e. Tata Consultancy Services. It consisted of 100 questions exam. The marks were out of 180. 34 questions were asked from Quantitative Ability (QA), 34 were asked about Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC), and 32 questions were asked from Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR). CAT 2016 was conducted by the IIM (Indian Institute of Management) Bangalore.

What is a CAT?

CAT is the only exam that is the key to other Management Institutes. To pursue MBA or PGDM programs, a student has to appear for the CAT Exam. The requirement for Management Institutions is very much high. The cut off is dependent on the percentile. Top Management Institutions have 99 percentile cut off.

So the CAT is one of the most crucial exams to get a high percentile. There are 20 IIMs (Indian Institute of Management) and more than 136 Management Institutes participate in this Admission test.

Through this Exam, admission is possible into 19 Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Post Graduate Management Program (MBA) and various B- Schools located across the whole Country. The candidates have to qualify in CAT exams. There are also many Government and private schools and colleges and Institutions which accept CAT marks for admission. The competition is very high because the seats for Management courses is limited.

The increase in the number of students in CAT exam

CAT (Common Admission Test) is open for all Graduates who have at least 50%marks in any Degree (Graduation). The duration of the CAT Exam is 180 Minutes. It consists of 100 Questions. Sometimes the No of questions can increase or decrease.

There is also a negative marking for each wrong MCQ answered. But there is no negative marking in attempting a wrong note MCQ. CAT exams are conducted till the Month of December. Exams are conducted Online and not in pen-paper mode.

For admission to any IIMs (Indian Institute of Management), the students have to apply in all the IIMs (Indian Institute of Management) separately. Admission in any IIM (Indian Institute of Management) is totally dependent on the marks scored in the CAT Examination. The performance of Candidates in the CAT Exam decides which Institute the candidate will get admission.

After examination, there is another round held in the respected Institutions that are GD-PI (Group Discussion and Personal Interview) round that is held to check the English speaking Proficiency. After the student passes these two rounds, then the candidate is eligible for taking admission in the IIM (Indian Institute of Management).

The fees of Topmost B-Schools are not too less. The fees go in lakhs for a year.
