What is NDA

NDA stands for (National Defiance Academy), NDA is the join service Academy. UPSC conducted the NDA examination two in the year. There are three types of service in NDA i.e. The Indian Army Academy, Indian Navy Academy, Air Forces Academy training together before they go on to pre-commissioning training. The NDA is located at Khadakwasla near Pune, Maharashtra, Pincode – 411023. There are two types of subjects i.e. Mathematics, General Ability test.  Mathematic Maximum Marks—300, General Ability Test Maximum Marks—600, total marks for 900. In General Ability Test there are two type of test are – English, General Knowledge. English Maximum Marks—200, In General, Knowledge Maximum Marks—400. Total marks for 600 marks.  And after that SSB take the candidate interview in 2 sections. Secton 1 and section 2.

NDA Center of Examination

The Examination will be held at the following Centres:

Agartala, Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Allahabad, Bengaluru, Bareilly, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Cuttack, Dehradun, Delhi, Dharwad, Dispur, Gangtok, Hyderabad, Imphal, Itanagar, Jaipur, Jammu, Jorhat, Kochi, Kohima, Kolkata, Lucknow, Madurai, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji (Goa), Patna, Port Blair, Raipur, Ranchi, Sambalpur, Shillong, Shimla, Srinagar, Thiruvananthapuram, Tirupati, Udaipur and Vishakhapatnam.

Applicants should note that there will be a ceiling on the number of candidates allotted to each of the centres except Chennai, Dispur, Kolkata and Nagpur. Allotment of Centres will be on the first-apply-first-allot basis, and once the capacity of a particular centre is attained, the same will be frozen. Applicants, who cannot get a centre of their choice due to ceiling, will be required to choose a Centre from the remaining ones. Applicants are, thus, advised that they may apply early so that they could get a Centre of their choice.

Candidates admitted to the examination will be informed of the time table and place or places of examination. Candidates should note that no request for change of centre will be granted. Notwithstanding the provision above, Commission reserves the right to change the Centers at their discretion if the situation demands.

NDA Physical and Personality test

After that SSB (selection board service ) takes the interview. There are two types of SSB selection procedure i.e. stage I and stage II. Only those candidates who clear the stage I are permitted to appear on Stage II.

A two-stage selection procedure based on Psychological Aptitude Test and Intelligence Test has been introduced at Selection Centers/Air Force Selection Boards/Naval Selection Boards. All the candidates will be put to the stage-one test on first day of reporting at Selection Centers/Air Force Selection Boards/Naval Selection Boards. Only those candidates who qualify at stage one will be admitted to the second stage/remaining tests. Those candidates who qualify stage II will be required to submit the Original Certificates along with one photocopy each of: (i) Original Matriculation pass certificate or equivalent in support of date of birth, (ii) Original 10+2 pass certificate or equivalent in support of educational qualification.

Candidates who appear before the Services Selection Board and undergo the test there, will do so at their own risk and will not be entitled to claim any compensation or other relief from Government in respect of any injury which they may sustain in the course of or as a result of any of the tests given to them by the Services Selection Board whether due to the negligence of any 14 person or otherwise. Parents or guardians of the candidates will be required to sign a certificate to this effect.

Educational Qualification for NDA

For Army Wing of National Defence Academy:-

  • The Candidates applying for Army Wing of National Defence Academy admission should be the 12th Class pass of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination conducted by a State Education Board or a University.

For Indian Air Forces and Indian Navy Wing of National Defence  Academy:-

  • The candidates applying for Indian   Air Forces and Indian Navy Wing of National Defence Academy s admission must have 12th Class pass with Physics and Mathematics from a recognised board or university.

Candidates Appearing for 12th:-

  • Candidates who are appearing 12th Class of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination can also apply for the examination.
  • Candidates appearing in the 11th class exam are not eligible for this examination.
  • Candidates who are debarred by the Ministry of Defence from holding any Commission in the Defence Services shall not qualify for admission to the examination, and if admitted, their candidature will be cancelled.
  • Those candidates who have failed INSB/PABT earlier are not eligible for Air Force.


answer sheet Instruction for NDA

Write with Black ball pen your Centre and subject followed by test booklet series (in bracket), subject code and roll number at the appropriate space provided on the answer sheet at the top. Also encode your booklet series (A, B, C, or D as the case may be), subject code and roll number in the circles provided for the purpose of the answer sheet. The guidelines for writing the above particulars and for encoding the above details are given in Annexure. In case the booklet series is not printed on the test booklet or answer sheet is un-numbered, please report immediately to the invigilator and get the test booklet/answer sheet replaced.

Candidates should note that any omission/mistakes/discrepancy in encoding/filling of details in the OMR answer sheet, especially about Roll Number and Test Booklet Series Code, will render the answer sheet liable for rejection.

Candidates, please check that the test booklet supplied to you does not have any unprinted or torn or missing pages or items, etc. if so, get it replaced by a complete test booklet of the same series and subject.

Do not write your name or anything other than the specific items of information asked for, on the answer sheet/test booklet/sheet for rough work.

Do not fold or mutilate or damage or put any extraneous marking in the Answer Sheet. Do not write anything on the reverse of the answer sheet.
