Recently, the Union Health Ministry, along with the National Medical Commission (NMC), formed a 7-member panel to assess states’ and universities’ readiness for the NExT exam. This move has confused students regarding NExT 2025 and NEET PG 2025.

Previously, the Post Graduate Medical Education Regulations (PGMER) made a brief reference to the NExT exam while outlining the schedule for postgraduate medical admissions in 2024. This uncertainty has left students questioning whether to expect NEET PG 2025 or NExT 2025. They should be aware of the forthcoming changes in the landscape of postgraduate medical entrance examinations.

Applicants can apply for courses like the PG Diploma, Doctor of Diploma, and Master of Surgery. Applicants will get admission to various government, private, and central universities. The application form for this exam will be released online on the official website. What is NExT Exam?

The National Exit Test (NExT) was initially introduced by the National Medical Commission (NMC) for the 2019 MBBS batch, but due to unforeseen circumstances such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the exam was postponed until a later date. In June 2023, the NMC conducted a webinar providing comprehensive details about the NExT exam, including its process, syllabus, objectives, and other relevant aspects.

As per the information brochure released by the NMC, the NExT will be administered biannually in two sessions, namely Step 1 and Step 2, by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). This exam is slated to replace both NEET PG and FMGE and will be conducted in an online computer-based test format similar to the aforementioned exams. However, unlike its predecessors, the NExT will assess both the theoretical knowledge and practical skills of medical graduates with equal emphasis.

All MBBS graduates will be eligible to participate in NExT 2025 Step 1. After successfully qualifying in this phase and completing their internship, candidates will undergo an assessment for practical skills in NExT 2025 Step 2. As per the current guidelines provided by the NMC, the exam is anticipated to take place in August 2023 for students from the MBBS 2020 batch.

How to Fill NEET PG 2025 Application Form

• Step 1: Visit the NEET PG Website – Navigate to the NEET PG website using the provided link.
• Step 2: Registration – Register yourself on the website by providing the necessary details and generate a User ID and Password.
• Step 3: Login – After successful registration, log in to the portal using the generated User ID and Password.
• Step 4: Fill Application Form – Complete the application form with the requested details including personal information, educational qualifications, and preferred exam centre.
• Step 5: Upload Documents – Upload required documents such as a recent photograph, signature, and thumb impression.
• Step 6: Payment – Proceed to the payment section and pay the required application fee through online mode using a debit card, credit card, or net banking.
• Step 7: Review and Submission – Carefully review all the filled details and ensure accuracy. Once verified, submit the application form.

NEET PG 2025 Eligibility Criteria

• Internship: Candidates must have completed a one-year internship on or before 31st August 2025.

• Attempt Limit: There is no limit to the number of attempts for the NEET PG entrance examination.

For Foreign Medical Graduates:

• Nationality: Indian Citizens or Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) are eligible to apply.
• Internship: Candidates must complete a one-year internship on or before 11th August 2025.
• Registration: Foreign medical graduate candidates should be registered with the Medical Council of India (MCI) or State Medical Council (SMC) after obtaining the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) Pass Certificate.
• FMGE Pass Certificate: Candidates who wish to appear for the NEET PG exam and have completed their primary medical qualification from outside India must first pass the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) exam.

Registration Certificate: All foreign medical graduates must register with the MCI/ SMC after obtaining the FMGE Pass Certificate. Such candidates must submit a copy of the Registration Certificate to confirm their eligibility for the exam authorities. 

NEET 2025 Exam Pattern

NEET PG 2025 Admit Card 

The NEET PG Admit Card 2025 serves as a mandatory document required on the day of the exam. Candidates are required to download their admit card from the fourth week of June 2025. The hall ticket contains essential details such as the candidate’s name, roll number, date and time of the exam, as well as their photograph and signature. Additionally, it provides important exam guidelines that candidates must adhere to.

The NEET PG Answer Key will not be officially released due to a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA). However, coaching institutes may release unofficial answer keys containing correct answers to the questions asked in the examination. These answer keys will be available online in PDF format. Candidates can use the answer key to estimate their marks and gauge their performance in the exam.

Candidates who have appeared for the exam will have the opportunity to check unofficial answer keys provided by various coaching institutes. After the release of the NEET PG 2025 Answer Key, the official results will be declared by the authority.

NEET PG 2025 Result

The NEET PG 2025 Result is expected to be announced in July or August 2025. Candidates can access their results through online mode by logging into the official website using their credentials. They must obtain their scorecard from the website to view their results. It’s important to note that there will be no provision for re-evaluation, re-checking, or re-totalling of marks for the candidates.

The NEET PG 2025 Result will be valid only for the current academic session. In cases where two or more candidates obtain the same marks, the position will be determined using predefined tie-breaking criteria. Following the announcement of the result, the authority will release the NEET Merit list, which represents the overall merit positions of all candidates who appeared for the exam.

NEET PG 2025 Cut Off 

The NEET PG 2025 Cut-Off will be published online and represents the minimum scores required for candidates to qualify for the examination. For the General/EWS category, the cut-off will be set at 50%, while for SC/ST/OBC candidates, it will be 40%. Additionally, UR PWD candidates will need to achieve a minimum of 45%. To be eligible, candidates must obtain scores equal to or higher than the specified cut-off marks.

The cut-off marks for NEET PG 2025 will be determined based on several factors, including the difficulty level of the exam, the number of aspirants who appeared for the exam, and the previous year’s cut-off trends. These factors collectively influence the final cut-off score. The cut-off marks will be made available either along with or after the announcement of the result.

NEET PG 2025 Counselling Procedure

The NEET PG counselling for admission to postgraduate medical courses will be overseen by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) and will be conducted exclusively through online mode. All shortlisted candidates must participate in the counselling process. The counselling will be conducted in multiple rounds and will involve various steps including online registration, choice filling, seat allotment, and reporting to the allocated institution, among others.

Seats will be allocated to candidates based on the choices filled by them during the counselling process, taking into account the availability of seats and reservation criteria. Candidates who are allotted seats will be required to download their allotment letter from the official website. Subsequently, they must report to the designated reporting centre for document verification and completion of further admission procedures. During this process, candidates will need to present both original and photocopies of their documents for verification purposes.
