What is NDA EXAM ? This is the most common question raised by teenagers and school going students and kids. Many of the students who are studying in 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th are still not aware of What is NDA EXAM.
The National Defense Academy Examination is meant to be organized by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for recruitment into the Indian Army, Indian Navy, and Indian Air Force and for Indian naval academy Course
The National Defence Academy is basically the joint services academy of Indian armed Forces, in which the candidate for the three major services, the Army, the Navy and the Air Force are trained altogether. This is also known as the world’s first Tri-service academy.
Admissions to the NDA are done by written exam held by the UPSC which is then followed by extensive personality tests/ interviews based on candidate’s general aptitude, psychological testing, team-building skills along with physical and social skills and medical tests.
New sessions are meant to be held twice annually. On an approximate ratio around 3,20,000 applicants get themselves enroll for the written exam every year out of which only 9000 are invited for the personality test’s/interviews. Cadets who want to go to Air force have to go through a Pilot Aptitude Battery Test. An average total of around 300-350 candidates are accepted to the academy each year out of which 66 aspirants are accepted for the Air Force, 39 for the Navy and 195 for the Army.
On successful completion of the program cadets are sent to their respective training academies for one year of training before granting of commission: aspirants for army go to IMA Dehradun, Naval aspirants to INA Ezhimala, Kerala and Air Force cadets are then sent to Dundigal, Hyderabad.
Declines to commission are only allowed in situation of a serious permanent medical condition caused during the program.
NDA Selection Procedure Details
Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) organizes NDA (National Defense Academy) & NA (National Academy) Exam -II. The aspirants who are eligible can apply through online and offline application mode. Minimum Educational Qualification needed is 12th Class pass in 10+2 Pattern. The selection process is as per Written Test & Interview. The details are as follow:

- The exam is going to include 2 subjects, Math and General Ability Test.
- Every subject is given the time limit of 2 ½ Hours
- Total marks for Math is 300 & General ability is 600.
The papers in all the subjects will include objective type questions only. The question papers of Mathematics & Part B of General Ability Test are going to be set bilingually i.e. in Hindi as well as English.The Commission has discretion to fix qualifying marks in any or all the subjects at the examination.
- Qualified aspirants in the written examination would be invited for Interview held by SSB (Services selection board).
- For Army, Navy Wings & 10 +2 Entry Scheme aspirants have to undergo Intelligence Test & Personality Test, but for Air Force Wing the aspirants must attend a Pilot Aptitude Test.
- The Interview includes both Intelligence and Personality Test. In interview the aspirants will be put to Intelligence Tests both Verbal and Non Verbal Tests based knowledge to assess their intelligence, they are also going to undergo Group Tests like Group Discussions, Group Planning, Outdoor Group Tasks, and asked to give Brief Lectures on Specified Subjects.
- For Army Wing of NDA
The cadet should have passed class XII of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination conducted by a State Education Board or a University
- For Air Force and Naval Wings of NDA and for 10+2 (Executive Branch) Course at Naval Academy
The cadet should have passed class XII of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equally treated exam organized by a State Education Board or a University with physics and mathematics as main subjects.
The aspirant should be of age between 16 and half to 19 years as on 1st January of the year the examination.
The entrance examination for NDA is organized by UPSC every year. To apply an aspirant should register online and pay the fees by Credit/Debit card or by way of Bank Challan. The application form is easy to fill and could be filled on the official website of the UPSC.

NDA will release its exam latest information through notification. NDA (I) on 17th April, 2016 and NDA (II) on 18th September 2016.
