JIPMER 2018 Application Form will be released through online mode from 7th March 2018.Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research [JIPMER] is a medical instituted with its campus spread over a sprawling 195-acre campus in an urban locale of Puducherry. JIPMER is one of the leading Medical Institutions of India. Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research is a medical school in India for admission to undergraduates [UG] / postgraduates [PG] candidates.


Duration of the MBBS course is four years and six months as per the Academic Calendar of JIPMER followed by one year of Compulsory Rotatory Internship for an award of Degree. Common Entrance Examination for 200 Seats [150 seats at JIPMER, Puducherry + 50 seats at JIPMER, Karaikal]

What’s New in JIPMER MBBS 2018?


The JIPMER MBBS 2018 exam was held online in two shifts. The first shift was held from 10 am to 12.30 pm and the second shift from 3 pm to 5.30 pm.


There was an increase in the JIPMER MBBS Application fees in 2018. From this year, candidates belonging to Gen/OBC category had to pay Rs 1200 and candidates belonging to SC/ST category had to pay Rs 1000.


The number and distribution of seats may vary depending upon the periodic directives/decisions from Competent Authorities.

Eligibility Criteria

The Applicant should be an Indian National / Overseas Citizen of India.

The candidates have completed the age of 17 years at the time of admission or will complete the age on or before 31st December, the year of his/her admission to the 1st year M.B.B.S., i.e. they should have been born on or before 01-01-2001. [Request for relaxation from the prescribed age limit will not be considered for any category of applicants]. No upper age limit.

The applicants should have passed the qualifying examinations in the manner mentioned below:

The Higher / Senior Secondary Examination or the Indian School Certificate Examination which is equivalent to 10+2 Higher / Senior Secondary Examination after a period of 12 years study, the last two years of such study comprising Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Biotechnology [which shall include practical tests in these subjects] or any other elective with English at a level not less than the core course for English as prescribed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training after introduction of the 10+2+3 educational structure as recommended by the National Committee on Education.

The applicant must have passed in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Bio-technology and English individually and must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry, Biology / Bio-technology at the qualifying examination.

For candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes / Scheduled Tribes or Other Backwards Classes / OPH the minimum marks obtained in the Physics, Chemistry, Biology/ Bio-technology taken together in the qualifying examination is 40%.

For OPH candidates in general category the minimum marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology/ Biotechnology taken together in the qualifying examination is 45%.

JIPMER Students Association Fee [p.a.] – RS 2,000.00

Learning Resource Fee [p.a.] – 2,000.00

Corpus Fund on Academic Fee [p.a.] – 70.00

I.T. Charges [p.a] –  2,000.00

The Admission fees should be paid by each candidate at academic section, JIPMER on the counseling day after the completion of counseling process.

Academic fee for NRI / OCI Candidates

  1. An Academic fee of US $75,000/- + Transaction charges as applicable. It will be the one-time payment, for an entire duration of the course, at the time of admission. The admission letter will be issued only on confirmation of payment from the competent authority.
  2. Payment to be made in foreign currency by way of Demand Draft drawn in favour of the Director, JIPMER, Puducherry was payable at [PUDUCHERRY].
  3. Fees once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances.


Based on the result of the Competitive Entrance Examination, the following merit lists will be prepared based on Percentile Scores: –

  • Common [UR] Merit list

Subject to the Govt. of India, DOPT. O.M.No. 36011/1/98. Estt. [Res], Dated 1st July 1998, it clarified that only such SC / ST / OBC applicant who is selected on the same standard as applied to general candidates should not be adjusted against reserved vacancies. In other words, when a relaxed standard involved in choosing an SC / ST / OBC applicants, for example in the age limit, experience, qualification, permitted number of chances in written examination, extended zone of consideration larger than what is provided for General category applicants etc. the SC / ST / OBC candidates are to be counted against reserved vacancies. Such candidates would be deemed as unavailable for consideration against the unreserved vacancies.

Therefore a reserved candidate will be considered on General Seat only if no relaxation of the eligibility level [i.e. % of marks] and at the cut-off level in MBBS Entrance Examination given.

In each category, the total no. of a candidate to be called for counselling will be ten times the no. of seats available in each category.

Individual letters will not be sent to the selected candidates and to those who placed on the waiting list. Please check the website for the lists. Applicant and parents are advised to browse the website periodically for updated information. They will be required to attend Counselling at the Institute at their cost on the notified date.

What items candidates can carry inside JIPMER MBBS 2018 exam hall?

Candidates had to carry their JIPMER MBBS 2018 admit cards with the specified identification proof provided by the Government of India. Candidates also had to carry the original Aadhar/ E-Aadhar with validated digital signature / Passport along with a copy. During the examination, candidates had to a sign an attendance sheet and affix the left hand index finger impression. Candidates who failed to meet the requirements would automatically have their candidature cancelled without any intimation.
