The (National Entrance Screening Test) or NEST is a compulsory test for admission to the 5-year Integrated M.Sc program in basic sciences – Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics – at National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar and the University of Mumbai – Department of Atomic Energy Center for Excellence in Basic Sciences (UM-DAE CBS), Mumbai. Both NISER and CBS are autonomous institutions established by the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India, in 2007.

All the candidates admitted to 5-year Integrated M.Sc program at NISER and CBS are eligible for INSPIRE, Govt. of India, scholarship of ₹5,000/- per month and ₹20,000/- per year for carrying out summer projects.

Besides, top performers at NISER and CBS, securing overall grades above a certain threshold at the end of the final semester, will be eligible to appear directly for the interview for admission to Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) Training School. Educational Qualification & Age limit

Candidates must qualify all four eligibility criteria listed below:

  • Candidates in the General and OBC category should be born on or after August 01, 2002. The age limit is relaxed by 5 years for SC/ ST/ Physically Disabled (PD) candidates.
  • Class XII qualifying examination should be passed in either 2020 or 2021. Candidates appearing in 2022 are also eligible. (Where only Letter Grade is given by the Board, a certificate from the Board specifying equivalent percentage marks will be required.
  • In the absence of such a certificate the decision of the respective Admission Committees will be final.)
  • At least 60% marks in aggregate (or equivalent grade) in Class XII (or equivalent) examination from any recognized Board in India.
  • For Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) candidates and for Persons with
  • Disability (PD), the minimum requirement is 55%.
  • The candidate should secure a position on the NEST merit list.

  • The first and important factor deciding how eligible a student is for taking an exam is they should not be beyond 25. There is a definite age limit to take this exam. Those students who come under the category of SC/ST/PD, are having the privilege of 5 years of extension.
  • Anyone applying for the NEST Exam should have passed the Higher Secondary Certificate Examination or there is another criterion for eligibility for the exam the candidates must have a 10+12 degree to get familiar with the exam trend coming under the famous Board.
  • They should have acquired up to 60% marks in the mentioned line. Secures at least 60% in aggregate in the XII standard board examination.

NEST 2022 Exam Pattern

The question paper of the exam includes five parts with a total of 200 marks. The first part is necessary for every student to score 60 marks.

The other sections include 2-5, which requires you to choose only two that you must get 70 marks. The questions are set with the focus on putting you to the test for a better interpretation of the topic and you will estimate the level of intelligence.

The question includes the MCQ format along with four choices that come for every question. A few of the questions may happen to have many right answers. In parts 2-5, those giving the wrong answer will get their marks deducted.
