What is IIFT?

The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT), the premier ‘B-School” in the country, was established in 1963 under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Govt. of India, to contribute to the skill building for the external trade sector of India. The Institute was granted “Deemed to be University” status in 2002. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) recognized IIFT as a Grade ‘A’ Institution in 2005 and 2015. The Institute was granted the prestigious AACSB Accreditation in 2021. With this, the IIFT figures amongst the top 900+ Business Schools of the world that have earned this accreditation.

From Academic Year 2024-25, for admission to IIFT’s two-year MBA (International Business) and MBA (Business Analytics) programmes, the Institute will consider the score of CAT 2023. Candidates will be shortlisted for the second round of the admission process, i.e. WAT/Group Discussion/Extempore/Personal Interview, etc., of MBA (International Business) and MBA (Business Analytics) programmes based on their CAT Score and other parameters. Therefore, to gain admission to IIFT’s MBA (IB) and MBA (BA) 2024-26 programmes, all aspirants must have a valid CAT 2023 score.

It’s important to note that the marking scheme for the IIFT Exam is different from other MBA entrance exams. IIFT 2024 has a negative marking of -1 for each incorrect answer in the VARC, DILR, and QA sections. However, in the General Awareness section, -0.5 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer. IIFT Cut-offs for MBA (IB)

No major change seems to occur in the IIFT cut-off after the release of the IIFT exam answer key by the National Testing Agency on January 9, 2023, as the official answers are on the expected line. However, IIFT test takers for admission 2023 should check, download and match their responses with official IIFT answers. This will help them to calculate their score based on the official answers and arrive at the IIFT campus-wise Cut-offs.

The IIFT 2023 entrance exam for admission to the MBA (IB) 2023-25 batch took place on December 18, 2022, and it was reported to be more challenging than in previous years. This increased difficulty level may impact the cut-off scores for IIFT 2023. While the institute will release the exact cut-off scores for IIFT 2023 after declaring the results, it is expected that the cut-offs for the IIFT 2024 MBA (IB) admission may be around 96-97 percentile, corresponding to a score range of approximately 115-120 marks out of the total 300.

IIFT Percentile Predictor

IIFT Percentile predictor prepared by experts becomes life immediately after the IIFT entrance exam. It will guide you to assess your performance in IIFT 2024 entrance exam and whether you can score the expected percentile for shortlisting. The IIFT entrance exam for MBA (IB) admission 2024 has a higher difficulty level, and a higher percentile is awarded a moderate score. After the IIFT Entrance exam, candidates are anxious to know the IIFT exam percentile score and the process of how to arrive at the accurate IIFT percentile calculation so that they understand their MBA (IB) 2024 admission chances in preferred IIFT campuses located in Delhi, Kolkata and Kakinada.

As per the past trends, the required likely percentile for shortlisting for MBA (IB) admission 2024 at different campuses of IIFT would be:

  • Expected Percentile for Delhi Campus: 98 & above
  • Expected Percentile for Kolkata Campus: 95 & above.

Here’s how an IIFT percentile predictor works:

  • Mock Test Data: The percentile predictor collects data from various mock tests of candidates preparing for the IIFT entrance exam. This data includes individual scores of candidates in different sections of the mock tests.
  • Comparison with Previous Year’s Data: The predictor may also use data from the previous year’s IIFT exams to make a larger data set for analysis. This data helps compare the mock test scores and the actual exam scores.
  • Normalisation: Since the difficulty level of different IIFT exams may vary slightly, the predictor employs a normalisation process to ensure fairness in percentile calculation. This process aligns the scores from mock tests and past exams on a common scale.
  • Mapping Performance: The percentile predictor maps the performance of individual candidates against the entire dataset. It analyses how a candidate’s scores compare to those of others, especially about their relative rank.
  • Percentile Calculation: Based on the comparison and normalisation, the predictor calculates an estimated percentile for each candidate. This percentile represents the percentage of candidates who scored below the individual candidate in the entire dataset.
  • Estimated Percentile: The percentile predictor then provides the estimated percentile to the candidate. This helps them understand where they stand compared to other test-takers in the mock tests.

IIFT 2024 Selection Procedure

Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) will announce the IIFT interview dates for shortlisted candidates who are seeking admission to its MBA (IB) course offered at Delhi, Kolkata, and Kakinada Campuses. The IIFT 2024 selection procedure consists of two stages: the first stage is shortlisting candidates based on their IIFT exam score (Percentile), and the second stage is evaluating them through Extempore and Personal Interview (PI) rounds. In 2023, IIFT offered the option of hybrid mode for PI, but due to the high number of candidates opting for offline mode, it decided to conduct the PI in online mode only.

Selection Criteria

The IIFT 2024 selection procedure consists of several steps, from the entrance exam to the final admission result. The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts the entrance exam, while the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) administers the rest of the admission process.

The selection procedure of IIFT 2024 involves two stages: shortlisting and final selection. The shortlisting of candidates will be done based on their performance in the IIFT entrance exam, which includes sectional and overall cutoffs. The cutoffs vary by category and the campus preference of the candidates. The shortlisted candidates will have to participate in Extempore/PI rounds, evaluated on various parameters such as academic diversity, gender diversity, work experience, academic consistency, and so on. The final selection of candidates is based on their cumulative score in different rounds, each with a different weightage.

IIFT Selection Process (Stage 1)

The first stage of the IIFT selection process involves shortlisting candidates for Extempore and PI based on their IIFT entrance exam percentiles. The institute decides the minimum cutoff percentile depending on the number of candidates to be shortlisted according to the availability of seats. The cutoffs also vary by the category and campus preference of the candidates. The shortlisted candidates have to fill out an online CV form with the following details:

  • Personal Information
  • Educational Qualification
  • Professional Experience Details
  • Awards / Achievements / Extra-Curricular Activities etc & Languages Known
  • Career Focus ( not be more than 100 words)

IIFT 2024 GD and PI Process

The Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI) process for IIFT 2024 admission is essential to the selection process. Here is a general outline of the GD and PI process:

Group Discussion (GD):

  • Shortlisting: After declaring the IIFT entrance exam result, candidates who meet the cutoff criteria are typically shortlisted for the GD round.
  • Group Formation: Shortlisted candidates are divided into groups, usually comprising 8-10 candidates.
  • Topic Discussion: Each group is given a topic related to current affairs, business, economics, or any other relevant subject. Candidates discuss the topic, share their opinions, and exchange ideas within a specified time frame.
  • Evaluation: The group discussion is evaluated by a panel of judges, who assess the candidates based on their communication skills, knowledge, logical thinking, leadership qualities, and ability to present and defend their viewpoints.

Personal Interview (PI):

  • Shortlisting: Candidates who qualify for the GD round are further shortlisted for the PI round.
  • Face-to-Face Interview: Each candidate appears for a one-on-one personal interview with a panel of interviewers. The interview assesses the candidate’s personality, communication skills, confidence, subject knowledge, career aspirations, and suitability for the MBA course.
  • Questioning and Evaluation: The interview panel asks about the candidate’s background, academics, work experience (if applicable), general awareness, and business-related topics. The candidate’s responses, overall demeanour, and ability to handle challenging questions are evaluated.

During both the GD and PI rounds, staying updated with current affairs, national and international news, business, economics, and political events is important. Candidates should also have a strong understanding of their background, academic achievements, and career goals. Preparing for the GD and PI rounds is advisable by participating in mock group discussions, practising interview questions, and enhancing communication and presentation skills.
