The NID (National Institute of Design) has organized the national level entrance examination for the candidates and the entrance test is NID DAT (Design Aptitude Test), which is conducted to offer admission to the candidates in Bachelor of Design (B.Des), Graduate Diploma Programme in Design (GDPD) as well as Master of Design (M.Des) programs.

NID Exam Pattern 2023

Those students who have applied in the examination of NID DAT 2023, must have to prefer the exam pattern for the better preparation of examination. For candidates applying in only one discipline of M.Des Programme:

The Candidates are required to appear in DAT Prelims comprising of the CDAT [Common Design Aptitude Test] and discipline-specific test of the discipline selected by them. The total duration of the DAT Prelim will be 2.5 hrs.

For candidates applying in two disciplines of M.Des. Program:

The candidates are required to appear in DAT Prelims comprising of the CDAT [Common Design Aptitude Test] and TWO discipline-specific tests. The total duration of the DAT Prelim will be 4.5 hrs. (30 minutes for CDAT and 2 hrs. each for the discipline-specific test).

About DAT Prelims 

the B.Des/GDPD DAT Prelims Paper will Consist of an Examination of 3 Hours Duration and 100 marks. The Test will be held on Paper and Pencil/Pen Test, Conducted at the Same Time on the same day across all test centers.

NID DAT Exam Pattern for Prelims

NID DAT Exam Pattern 2023 for prelims will comprise of two parts.

Part I of NID DAT 2023

• According to the exam pattern of NID DAT 2023 for the preliminary exam, candidates will have to answer multiple-choice questions in the first part
• Students should have to select one or more correct answers
• Candidates will have to mark the responses in the OMR sheet
• Part I will have 64 questions that will be a total of 70 points.
• The responses marked in the answer sheet will be checked digitally.

Part II of NID DAT 2023 

• As per the NID DAT exam pattern 2023, part II of the entrance exam will comprise of three subjective questions.
• In this part of the examination, applicants should have to fill all of the answers necessarily.
• NID DAT exam pattern mentions that candidates will have to answer the questions in a written or visual format.
• The questions of these examinations will be asked in English.
• There are no negative marks for incorrectly answering the questions
