Question: I am pursuing B.Sc. Am I eligible to appear in GATE 2021?

Answer: If it is a 4-year degree and research course, then you are Eligible. If it’s a three-year degree course then you are not Eligible.

Question: Can I appear for GATE 2021 if I have completed my B.Tech in Fire Engineering?

Answer: Yes, you can appear for GATE 2021 but you have to choose your GATE paper carefully.

Question: I have passed in 2021 but I have a backlog. Can I apply for GATE 2021?

Answer: You can apply for GATE 2021 using the marks sheet for the final semesters (anyone) of your B.Tech. However, you will have to clear your backlog by August 2021 to be able to avail admissions in M.Tech.

Question: I have passed my degree in 2021. I don’t have my Degree Certificate but I have Provisional Certificate. Will that is enough?

Answer: Yes, that would be enough. As per the eligibility criteria of GATE 2021, you need any one of the following documents while applying for GATE 2021 – degree certificate/ provisional certificate/ course completion certificate/ professional certificate/ membership certificate issued by the society or institute, you have completed your last education.

Question: I have completed my B.Tech with 50%. Am I Eligible for GATE 2021?

Answer: To appear for the GATE 2021 Exam, there are no specific pass percentage criteria. The pass percentage matter during M.Tech admissions as some IIT’s ask for 60% and above, while some don’t. IISc Bangalore, for instance, allows candidates with a second class in their graduation to apply for M.Tech provided they have valid GATE Scores. Most PSUs ask for 60% and above.

Question: Please tell me how many times can I appear for GATE? Is there any age limit?

Answer: You can appear for GATE as many times as you want and yes, there is no age limit too.

Question: I have completed my graduation through distance learning. Do you think I can apply for GATE 2021?

Answer: Yes, you can very much apply for the GATE 2021 Exam. Please make sure that your course based on which you are applying must be recognized by AICTE.

Question: I am a Postgraduate. Can I appear for GATE 2021? What are the documents I need to upload while applying?

Answer: In your case, you will have to upload the documents related to the relevant qualifying degree while filling the Application form.

Question: I passed out in 2021 but I have a backlog. Can I apply for GATE 2021?

Answer: No, you can’t apply for GATE 2021. It is advisable to clear the backlog and then apply next year for GATE 2021.

Question: I belong to the OBC category and therefore want to upload my category certificate but I can’t find any option to upload the certificate. What to do?

Answer: It’s because a category certificate for the OBC candidates is not needed while applying for GATE 2021. The category certificate is used to ascertain the concession offered in the Application fee.  The OBC certificate would be needed while taking admission using GATE Scores.

Question: I graduated in 2021 but I don’t have my degree certificate or provisional certificate. What document should I upload to prove that I am eligible for GATE 2021?

Answer: You can upload a copy of your final year mark sheet OR a declaration from your college Principal (or other competent authority) along with the signature and seal.

GATE FAQs on Application Form

Question: How to apply online for the Application form?

Answer: You have to register yourself first at GOAPS and then you can apply for the GATE Application form 2021.

Question:  For how many GATE papers can I apply?

Answer: You can apply for only 1 paper out of the 25 for GATE 2021. However, it is expected that you appear in a paper appropriate to the discipline of your qualifying degree. You are free to choose any paper according to your admission plans, keeping in mind the Eligibility criteria of the institutions in which you wish to take admission.

Question: Can I use one e-mail address to fill multiple Application forms?

Answer: No, you certainly can’t. One email address can be used to submit only one Application form.

Question: I am not able to upload my signature, despite many trials. I followed all the instructions and criteria specified. How do I do?

Answer: You need to check the format in which you are trying to upload. Also, check the size. Please do not resize the file.

Question: How to know if my photograph is acceptable or not?

Answer: In case, the photo you have uploaded is not accepted, you will get an email or SMS. Following that, you can correct the photograph and other details. Please do not resize the file.

GATE FAQs on Exam Centres and Zonal Centres

Question: What are GATE zonal centers and how will I know about mine?

Answer: The zonal centers of GATE 2021 are the IITs which are given the responsibility of coordinating with IIT Delhi for each region as specified. The GATE 2021 zonal center will be the IIT under which your exam center will be listed. You can reach your zonal IIT for any of your queries and concerns related to Admit card or Application form.

Question: Why should I choose three examination cities while filling the GATE Application form?

Answer: It’s because a candidate will most likely be allotted a center in the examination city of his or her first choice. In cases, where there would be too many candidates opting for a specific town as their first choice, the other two options will be relevant.

While filling the choices of cities, you must remember that because of operational constraints, the GATE 2021 committee reserves all the right to add a new city or remove an existing one and allow a town that may not be any of the choices you made. For candidates opting for international centers, there will be only one choice (by default).

GATE FAQs on Corrections in Application Form

Question: Can I change my mobile No or Email ID after I have submitted my GATE 2021  Application Form?

Answer: No, you can’t.

Question:  I have made some mistakes while filling the Application of GATE 2021. How to correct them?

Answer: You can change the following in your GATE Application form – Name, date of birth, the name of parent/ guardian, qualifying degree, year of qualifying degree. You will have to send a request mail from your email registered with GOAPS to your respective zonal GATE office, as mentioned in the application form. You will have to mention your Enrollment ID along with the nature of corrections to be done attaching the scanned copy of the proof in the email.

Question: Can I change my GATE 2021 Exam City after submission of my GATE 2021 Application Form?

Answer: Yes. You can request a change of examination city till November 15th, 2021, with an additional fee to be paid online using GOAPS.

Question: I have selected a wrong paper, e.g., I have chosen PH in my GATE Application and wanted to write PE. What should I do?

Answer: You need to fill a new application with a new email address (the mobile number can be the same) and choose the correct paper for examination. Please note that no refund will be made for the wrong application.

Question: I want to change my category in my GATE Application Form. What should I do?

Answer: To change your category, you will have to login into GOAPS and click on “change personal data.” Change your class and verify the details before submitting it.

After you provide the necessary changes, you will be directed to pay the additional fee which is Rs 750 in case of category change from SC/ ST to General/ OBC (not applicable to female and PwD candidates). The additional fee will be non-refundable and the last date to make changes along with fee submission is October 2021.

Question: I want to make a change in my gender in the GATE 2021 Application Form. What should I do?

Answer: To change the gender from Male/ other to Female, you will have to login into GOAPS and click on “change personal data.” Make the necessary changes and verify the data before submitting the modified details. After submission, you will be directed to pay the additional fee.

For gender change from female to male/ transgender (not applicable to SC/ ST & PwD category), the application fee is Rs 750, which is non-refundable. The last date to make changes along with additional fee submission is October 2021.

Question: My application status of GATE shows “Under Scrutiny.” What does it mean?

Answer: IIT Delhi will check the GATE Applications for any discrepancies, defects in photograph or signature. If the status shows “Under Scrutiny” it is fine. Once they check all the details, the status will be changed to “Successful Submission.”

GATE FAQs on Admit Card

Question: When will I receive my Admit Card?

Answer: You can download the Admit card of GATE 2021 from the GOAPS website from 5 to January 2021 onwards. Admit Cards will NOT be sent by post or as an e-mail attachment to any candidate.

Question: In my GATE 2021 Admit Card, my college address is blank.

Answer: You need to mail your concern to your zonal IIT with a copy of the Admit card.

Question: My photograph is blurred in GATE Admit Card 2021. What should I do?

Answer: You immediately mail your concern to your zonal IIT with a copy of the Admit card.

Question: My signature is not visible in the signature box in the Admit card. What should I do?

Answer: You should call your IIT zonal center. You will have to submit your Admit card along with the confirmation page.

GATE FAQs on Result

Question: How will I be able to check my GATE 2021 Result?

Answer: You will be able to check your GATE 2021 Result by using your registration ID or enrolment number of GATE and date of birth.

Question: How to obtain the Scorecard of GATE?

Answer: You can download the Scorecard of GATE through GOAPS from the 3rd week of March to the last week of May 2021. You will have to use your enrollment ID or email address, GOAPS password and captcha provided to view the Scorecard. You are advised to download it and take a print out of the same.

Question: What if I am not able to access my GATE 2021 Scorecard?

Answer: If you are not able to access your Scorecard, then you must not have qualified in GATE 2021.
