The CAT commonly known as the Common Admission Test is a National Entrance Test. This exam is regulated by the 19 Indian Institute of Management (IIM) on a rotating basis. CAT is organized to provide admission to the management program offered by the different management colleges.

It is a computer test. It will be conducted by IIM, Calcutta. Here we provide information on the CAT percentile 2019/2020.

The best B schools have a higher range of CAT thresholds, 90+ percentile, while the mid-range B-School cutoff range, 75% 80th percentile and the lower B-School limits have a cutoff range of around 50 percentiles. The Result of the CAT has been published on 4th January 2020.

CAT 2019/2020 Percentile 

A percentile represents the range of candidates for the exam. To calculate the percentile, institutions follow the CAT marking system. The answers will be verified and a total score will be determined. The total score will be adjusted through a process called “equation”. Then the score will be standardized in different sections. Subsequently, the standardized score obtained by the candidates will be converted into percentiles for selection purposes. The CAT result will be announced in January 2020. Candidates can download their CAT scorecard through online mode.

Candidates will get a call from different IIMs & other non-IIM management institutions on the basis of CAT percentile, CAT score & along with the sectional cut-offs for the next round.

CAT Percentile Calculations As per IIMs

Basically, IIMs give weightage to CAT score in the range of 60 to 80% and the remaining is contributed by a candidate’s academic record & work experience.

IIM Ahmedabad: The Institution gives 70% weightage to CAT Score & 30% to the academic record, work experience & extracurricular activities. The Cut-off of IIM Ahmedabad is probably to be 99.5 percentile.

IIM Calcutta: This institution grants a 67% weight to the CAT Score and 30% of the academic records. The remaining 3% is given to the candidates. The Calcutta IIM threshold is likely to be 99 percentiles.

IIM Bangalore: the institution does not have the criteria of difficult percentiles for the second round of shortlisting. The institution gives great importance to the academic record of candidates (grades 10, 12 and high school graduates) and the CAT percentile.

IIM Lucknow & IIM Kozhikode: These Institutions give 70 to 80% weightage to the CAT Score.

Other IIM Institutions: All the other Institutions give overall weightage to the CAT score.

The lowest percentile expected for a call from the new IIMs should be in the range of 96-97 percentiles.

CAT Admission Process 2019

The CAT Admission Process will begin after the announcement of the result. There will not be a centralized consultation for admission to management courses. Students must participate in the counseling process organized by IIM separately to obtain admission. Other universities will also hold admission rounds, such as personal interviews, group discussions, etc. Applicants must also qualify these rounds of admission for admission.
