CAT examination question divided in a various type. Total 100 questions, in which quantitative ability 34 questions/data interpretation and logical reasoning are 32 questions verbal and reading comprehension is 34 questions. Exam duration is 180 min it means 3 hours. And no marks for the unwanted question.  In which multiple choice and non – multiple choice question. For non – multiple choice question candidate wants to use the keyboard. Common Admission Test is allowed the candidate to use the basic on-screen calculator. Which each question carry three marks, negative marks for the wrong answer. Non – MCQ question will not have negative scores.

The Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) started the examination, IIMs selecting student by using the test for their business administration programs. CAT examination is a computer-based exam.

Important Instructions for Examination

  • The CAT examination will be conducted on 25th November 2018.
  • Download you admit card from the CAT website ( Admit Card will not be available for download after the completion of the test.
  • Read all the instructions carefully which is provided on the Admit Card.
  • You need to reach the test center by 7:30 a.m. for the forenoon session or by 1:00 p.m. for the afternoon session
  • Candidates come late for examination will not be permitted inside the test center.
  • Only original Photo ID proof and Admit Card will be authorized inside the examination hall.
  • Applicants who have to choose between using a scribe must also carry the duly filled Scribe Affidavit (available on the CAT website) along with the Photo ID proof (original plus a copy) of the scribe.
  • Your Admit Card (plus scribe affidavit, if applicable) will be collected by the test invigilator and will not be returned to you. The invigilator will retain These.
  • Any watch, mobile phone, earphone, microphone, pager, health band or any other electronic gadget, any printed/blank/handwritten paper, pencil box, pouch, calculator, etc. are not allowed inside the examination hall.
  • Candidates wearing shoes or any other closed footwear will have to leave the footwear (including socks) outside the examination hall. You can wear open footwear like chappals, sandals, etc.
  • On the day of the test, your digital fingerprint scan will be captured. Candidates whose fingerprints cannot be digitally scanned due to reasons like applying Mehndi/henna / any cosmetic colors etc. will not be permitted to take the test. It is strongly recommended that you avoid applying Mehndi on your hands (palm side) for at least five days before the test.

Reservation Requirement

As per the legal requirement, 15% of the seat is reserved for scheduled caste (SC) and 7.5% scheduled tribe (ST) candidate. 27% of the seat is reserved for other backward class’s candidates belonging to the “non – creamy” layers (NC-OBC).

For the purpose of being considered for reservations, the applicable Central Government list as on the list date of CAT registration shall be binding. No subsequent changes will be useful for CAT 2016 and any subsequent selection process of the IIMs. For a central update list of state-wise OBCs eligible for availing the benefit of the reservation and information in respect of the creamy layers Website

As per the provision of section 39 of the PWD Act, 1995, 3% seats are reserved for a person with a disability are:-

  • Low vision blindness
  • Hearing impairment
  • Locomotor disability / Cerebral Palsy

This provision is applicable if the candidate suffers from any of the listed disability to the extent of not less than 40%, certified by a medical authority as prescribed and explains in the side act.

The candidates belonging to the reserved categories need to note the eligibility required carefully before applying. It should be noted that while it is the endeavor of IIMs that the candidates belonging to SC/ST/PWD/NC-OBC categories join the Programme in proportions mandated by the law, they have to meet the minimum eligibility criteria and a certain minimum level of performance to be considered for the admission process.

The candidates should read the updated description of the selection process followed by each IIM on their respective websites. No change in the category will be entertained after CAT registration; hence, the applicants are advised to give attention while registering.

Admission Process

Please note that each IIM shortlists candidates for the second stage of selection which may be independent of each other. The process may include Written Ability Test (WAT), Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interviews (PI). Performance in CAT 2016 examination is an important component in the admission process. IIMs may additionally use other factors like the previous academic performance of the candidates, relevant work experience and other similar inputs in short listing and ranking of candidates at various stages of the admission process.
