It was named after Thunchath Ezhuthachan who was also commonly known as “The Father of Malayalam language”. In 2012 University was launched by Common Chandy, Chief Minister of Kerala. In 2013, the university indicated its academic activities on its campus under the name, Aksharamin addition to in 2014 a new expansive academic block was constructed.

It offers Master and Diploma courses in Malayalam language, literacy, mass media, humanities plus the social disciplines in the medium of Malayalam. The university also is known as Malayalam University. Its aim is to provide schooling on Kerala’s legacy, traditional knowledge systems, cultural anthropology, and media studies with modern technical knowledge. It is undertaking research programs in the zones of Malayalam language and linguistics, Malayalam literature, Malayalam diction comparative literature, other forms of educational expressions precise to Kerala, and contemporary cultural issues.

The university was named after Thunchaththu Ramanujan Ezhuthachan, a 16th-century CE Malayalam litterateur whose writings helped develop Malayalam as the language with the script of 51 letters, vocabulary, and literature. Thunchath Ezhuthachan was born at Trikkantiyur in Thunchan Parambu in Tirur, in the state of Kerala.

Malayalam University 2024 Application Form will be Released soon for Various Courses. The application procedure for entry to the M.A, M.Phil & Ph.D. courses is online and offline.

Online Mode: Students interested in any of the courses are required to fill an Application Form which is available on the university’s website as well as making the fee payment through Net banking/ Debit card/Credit card.

Offline Mode: Candidates can also buy the Information Brochure cum Application Form from the university campus. Candidates can also download Application Form from the university and submit the duly filled form by post.

Application Fee: 

• Application fee of INR 200 (INR 100 for SC/ST) is required to be paid by Credit, Debit card and net banking for online mode of application.
• Application fee of INR 200 (INR 100 for SC/ST) should be paid through DD for offline mode of application.

Malayalam University 2024 Admissions Process

The university offers M.Phil & Ph.D. programs for the entire duration of 1-year and 3-year respectively. Selection will be made on the basis of merit scored by the candidate in the entrance examination and qualifying examination.

Course wise merit list will be established on the basis of marks scored by the candidates in the exam and in the qualifying examination. The Rank List will be prepared on 50:50 predilection for both the entrance exam and the qualification exam.

Malayalam University offers M.A course in different areas of Arts & Humanities and Languages. Merit in the entrance and qualifying examination is the only criteria in order to guarantee admission into the M.A program.

Candidates have to secure at least 40% marks in the entrance to be entitled to the M.A program. The application charge for the general category is INR 200 (INR 100 in order to SC/ST). Candidates that can be applied to the maximum of three courses and have to take entrance exams for each course separately conducted by the university.
