What is CLAT?

CLAT stands for the Common Law Admission Test. It is an entrance examination conducted nationally in India for admission to undergraduate and postgraduate courses in law at various participating universities and institutions. The CLAT is organised by the Consortium of National Law Universities (CNLU) and is usually held in May. It is the basis for admission to prestigious law schools in India, including National Law Universities (NLUs) and other institutions that accept CLAT scores.

The exam conducting authority released the notification for CLAT 2024 on 31 October 2022. The CLAT Consortium will also announce other important details such as exam application, registration dates, syllabus, and exam pattern. The Governing Body and Executive Committee Consortium convened at NLU, Bhopal, on 20 May 2023 and determined that the CLAT exam 2024 will take place on 3 December 2023.

  • The application form for CLAT 2024 has been available on 1st July to 10th November 2023.
  • Candidates can only submit and fill out the CLAT registration form online. Offline mode will not be available.
  • During the initial registration process, candidates must provide basic details such as their name, email ID, and mobile number.

CLAT 2024 Eligibility Criteria

Qualifying Examination

The educational qualification requirements for the CLAT Exam are as follows:

  • For Undergraduate (UG) Programs: Candidates must have passed the 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognised board with a minimum aggregate score of 45% (40% for SC/ST candidates). Candidates appearing in the qualifying examination in the same year are also eligible.
  • For Postgraduate (PG) Programs: Candidates must have completed a Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.B) or an equivalent degree from a recognised university with a minimum aggregate score of 50% (45% for SC/ST candidates). Candidates appearing in the final year of the qualifying examination are also eligible.

Candidates who meet the minimum cutoff marks per the merit list will be eligible for the counselling process and seat allotment. It is important to note that participating NLUs will use CLAT 2024 scores for admission to their 5-year integrated and one-year LLM courses. The admission process will consider the CLAT 2024 cutoff for each category, and a merit rank list will be shared during the admission and seat allotment phase. CLAT 2024 Cut-Off

The CLAT 2024 cut-off has not been released yet. However, based on the previous year’s analysis, the expected cut-off for CLAT 2024 can be estimated. For the general category, the CLAT 2024 cut-off typically falls in the range of 95 to 100, whereas for the SC/ST category, it usually ranges from 80 to 85. 

It is important to note that these are general estimates and may vary each year. In terms of the top NLUs, the expected cut-off for the top three NLUs is anticipated to be in the range of 100 to 105, while for the top five NLUs, it is expected to be between 90 and 95.

CLAT 2024 Counseling 

CLAT 2024 Counselling has been Started on 11th December 2023. The CLAT Counseling list will be uploaded to the official CLAT website, containing eligible candidates’ names or admit card numbers. The Consortium of NLUs is responsible for announcing the complete schedule and process of the counselling.

Candidates should pay attention to any changes in the schedule and ensure that they register for CLAT Counseling accordingly. It is important to note that the number of candidates invited for counselling will be approximately five times the number of seats available in each category instead of the previously announced three times.

Only those candidates whose names or admit card numbers appear on the CLAT Counseling 2024 list are eligible to register for counselling. Invitations for registration will be sent to candidates through SMS and email. Candidates need to complete the registration process for CLAT Counseling, as failure to do so will result in their exclusion from the allotment process.

Seat Allotment Process

CLAT is an entrance examination for admission to undergraduate and postgraduate law courses offered by various participating National Law Universities in India. The seat allotment process for CLAT typically follows these steps:
