Candidates verify their eligibility for CLAT 2024 before completing the application form. The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is an entrance exam for all of India. The exam is conducted for candidates who are interested in undergraduate and graduate law programs.

The CLAT 2024 Exam will be administered by Odisha National Law University, Cuttack (NLUO). The Test is done for eighteen major law universities in the country.

CLAT 2024 Eligibility Criteria

The entrance exam will be held for candidates interested in the LL.M and LL.B courses offered by the 18 law universities in the country.

The Eligibility criteria of CLAT 2024 provide an overview of the minimum requirement of application and appearance in the entrance examination to the law.

Before completing the CLAT application form, applicants should carefully read the eligibility criteria, whether or not they meet the eligibility standards. The eligibility criteria for CLAT 2024 are given below:

Nationality:

• Applicants must be Indian citizens.
• NRI applicants can also request the exam.
• NRI can contact the participating universities directly to provide admission concerning the foreign national candidate.

Age Criterion:

• Age limit: there is no age limit to apply for CLAT 2024.

Academic Qualification:

For the Undergraduate Course (UG):

Qualification Exam: Applicants must have a review of upper/intermediate secondary education or an equivalent 10 + 2 equivalent education system from a recognized board.
The minimum number of points: candidates must have obtained at least 45% of points in total, and if they belong to the SC / ST category, they must have a minimum of 40%.
Candidates that appear: students who appear on the qualifying exam in March / April 2024 can also apply. These candidates must present proof that they passed the qualifying exam at admission.

For the Postgraduate Course (PG):

Qualification Exam: Applicants must have completed the LL.B or an LL.B 5-year integrated degree from a recognized university as prescribed by the participating universities.
Minimum points: candidates must obtain at least 55% of points (50% in the case of SC / ST candidates).
Applicants that appear: Candidates who appear on the qualification exam are also eligible.

Eligibility Criteria for UG Programme

• Candidates shall be below Twenty [20] Years of age as of 1st July of the current year in the case of all Unreserved/NRIs/NRI Sponsored categories candidates.
• Candidates shall be below Twenty-Two [22] years of age as of 1st July of the current year in the case of SC/ST/ OBC/Specially Abled Persons [SAP] category candidates.

As regards the minimum percentage of marks in the qualifying examination [i.e., 10+2], the candidates must have secured:

• Forty-five per cent [45%] marks in case of candidates belonging to Unreserved /OBC /Specially Abled Persons [SAP] and other categories, and
• Forty Percent [40%] marks in the case of candidates belonging to SC/ST categories.

Candidates appearing in the qualifying examination in March/April on the current are also eligible to appear in CLAT on the current year’s online examination. However, they shall be required to prove their passing the qualifying examination at the time of admission, failing which they shall lose their right to be considered for admission.

The result of the qualifying examination (i.e., 10+2) shall be submitted by the candidate at the time of admission, failing which the candidate shall be ineligible for admission to the Course.

In the case of equal marks, the breaking of a tie shall be by the following procedure and order:

• Higher marks in the section of legal aptitude in the CLAT-2024 exam.
• Higher age.
• Computerized draw of lots.

Eligibility Criteria for PG Programme

Post-Graduate Programme Offered by the National Law Universities

The information about the LL.M. Degree Course provided at various NLUs, the course duration, and the specializations offered has been presented in detail under the respective sections of each University’s website and information brochure.

The applicant is advised to check the respective Universities’ websites from time to time to keep themselves updated with any change in the course structure or other details.

Eligibility Criteria for Appearing in CLAT for PG Programme:

The candidates must have the minimum percentage of marks in the qualifying examination [i.e., LL.B./Five-Year Integrated LL.B. [Hons.]/ any other equivalent exam] as under:

• Fifty-five per cent [55%] marks in case of candidates belonging to Unreserved / OBC/Specially Abled Persons [SAP] and other categories, and
• Fifty per cent [50%] marks in the case of candidates belonging to the SC/ST category,

The candidate must have passed/appeared in the final semester/final year examination of the qualifying examination on the date of his/her admission.

In the case of an applicant who has appeared in the qualifying examination, he/she may submit his/her final result within the time frame prescribed by the respective University / Institute. Till then, such candidates may be given provisional admission.

In the case of equal marks, the breaking of a tie shall be by procedure and order as under:

• Higher age;
• Computerized draw of lots.

No upper age limit is prescribed for appearing in CLAT.
