Rukmani Riar – An Inspirational for Failures

Rukmani Riar, aged 24 and belonging from a family of landlords of Gurdaspur district had secured the second rank in Civil services exam of 2011. Her father Baljinder Singh Riar is a retired Deputy District Attorney of Hoshiarpur and her mother Takdeer Kaur is a housemaker. She is the only child of her parents. She did her schooling from Sacred Heart School at Dalhousie in Himachal Pradesh. She obtained her graduation from Guru Nanak Dev University at Amritsar. Rukhmani is a Gold Medalist in her Post Graduation in Social Sciences from Tata Institute of Social Sciences. Rukhmani got success in the most prestigious exam in her very first attempt. Her father is a Hoshiarpur-based advocate.

Talking about her study pattern, she said that she had always been excellent with self-study. She was always focused and keen to join civil services. It is the only reason that she chose Social science as her field of study so that it can benefit her in the UPSC exams.

When her mother was asked about her daughter’s success, she said that they had a belief that she will be able to clear it as right from the beginning she was hardworking and determined. One’s she makes her mind achieve something then by any means she will fulfil her desire.

This hailing Punjabi girl has brought the award to her family. It was a combination of both her hard work and God’s blessing that she emerged successfully, told her father.
She is a holder of dual honours degree, one in political science and sociology. She was also awarded Gold Medal for securing the first position all three years in the University.

She is also a prolific writer and had written down awareness on social issues. Becoming an IAS officer is like a dream come true for her, she intends to help the people.
