Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar
Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar was a great social reformer of the nineteenth century along with that he was also the multi-talented. He was more interested in the studies and became great educationist.
He was also the tireless reformer and scholar. He was the great poser of the Bengali and with a modern idea; her had tried to change it.
Beginning term of Vidyasagar
The Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar was born on 6th September 1820 in an Orthodox family, which was in Birsingha in the district of Midnapore.
His mother name was Bhagabati Devi, and his father name was Bandyopadhyay. He belonged from the low-income family. Including that he was much intelligent and because of this intelligence, he became the great educationist.
He had started his primary education at the village Pathshala. He continued his study in the Calcutta after admitting into the Sanskrit knowledge.
He was the brilliant student of his college and got the much reputation and award from Sanskrit college. As per his brilliant mind in the education, he passed his final examination with excellent marks.
In the Government Sanskrit College of Calcutta, he rewarded by a college as the outstanding scholars. He got the great award with a name of “Vidyasagar”, which meaning was the ‘the ocean of learning’.
Vidyasagar name is the combination of two Sanskrit words. ‘Vidya’ means ‘Knowledge’ and ‘Sagar’ means ‘Sea or ocean’.so it is the best meaning of Vidyasagar, which suits on him by his knowledge.
Life of Vidyasagar
He was most talented from his childhood. When he was in the teenager, he started his life journey with great things, First of all, he became most of the scholar students from primary to college.
He completed his last education from the Sanskrit college, and he always gets highest marks in the examinations and obtained scholarships.
He was most supportive for his father from the tender age, and he managed him all education expenses without creating any problem for his father because he had the excellent understanding manner.
He belonged from the low-income family and his father was not able to manage the educational expense for his son because he was working in private firm, where he was getting the low income.
Works of Vidyasagar
The Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar was at the post of school inspector with a handsome salary, and he was also earning money from writing many of the textbooks, which was the great way to make extra money.
He was a most talented person in the study. He was started his work as the regular school’s inspector, but after that, he became got the offer for the post of professor of literature at the Sanskrit College in Calcutta as per his knowledge and hard work.
After that, he became the principal of the Sanskrit College, which was the best rewards for him.
A great social reformer
From the childhood, he was the kind-hearted and most helping person. He was devoted his entire life to the cause of social reformer.
His most significant contribution to the life was for the help of the unassisted people. He particularly remembered for his contribution to the cause of women.
He was totally against the Child-marriage at the tender age. In the old system, the people done the polygamy of his children, which was not good, in fact, it was enough problems for that girl, who face problem after became widows.
He recommends to everyone to stop the polygamy from a country because it can destroy the whole life of an innocent child, especially girl child. He waged a long struggle as the favour of widow remarriage.
The widow remarriage act passed in 1856, and this law made the marriage of widows legal. The government started this law to save the life of women. In fact, He participated in the first widow remarriage that was in 1856 at Calcutta.
Vidyasagar made many of the efforts to provide the better life to girl child by establishing the school for girls’ education. He had started the school for girls education when no parents were allowed to his daughter to go to school, so it became possible to the better understanding and hard work of the Vidyasagar.
Vidyasagar also did many of the social reforms for the welfare of the Indian Society. He did great social reforms in his life for the India and brought many of the changes in society.
It is the high identity of Vidyasagar that he was close-minded people were actively opposed to it.
The name of the Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar remains popular in the India, and he is remembered by his countrymen respectfully in this days.
Last breath of Vidyasagar
The Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar took the last breath on 29th July 1891 at the age of 71 years.
In the Bengal, many of the colleges and universities are famous as the name of Vidyasagar.
