Earlier it was known as Gandhiji University has been approved by the National Assessment & Accreditation Council of India.

There are more than 300 affiliated colleges in 5 districts in Central Kerala. It offers 52 specialized courses in BA, 43 in B.Voc, 14 in B.com, eight courses in B.tech, 27 courses in M.A, 44 courses in M.Sc, ten courses in M.com & 6 courses in M.tech.
