When it is held:

The republic day parade is held every year on republic day which is on 26th January. The parade starts after the flag hoisting by Prime Minister of India, it takes three hours. All the Indian forces do parade rehearsals few days before the main event.

Where it is held:

The republic day parade is held in Delhi, from Rajpath to five kilometres long sets out from Raisina Hill near Rashtrapati Bhavan and follows Rajpath past India Gate on to the Red Fort.

What happens in the parade:

The Republic day parade begins with the arrival of the President of India, he is escorted by the pose of bodyguards on horses. The Indian Prime Minister of India lays the flowers at Amar Jawan Jyoti at India gate to pay homage to the sacrifice soldiers who lost their lives in war.

The PM hoists the Indian Flag and National Anthem is played, after that, a 21-gun salute is given. The parades are performed by the three divisions of the armed forces (Army, Navy, Air Force) they show their strength. In this, all the states show the Dramatic shows at the end of the Parade.

Where to buy the tickets:

Rules must be followed, mobile phones, cameras and all the other electronics are not allowed inside. So please don’t bring because there are strict checking and security. To get the front row seats try to arrive early as possible as the area will be congested with the VIP traffics and the vehicles are also checked for security purpose.

The gates are locked before the national anthem starts. If you spend more price to buy the tickets you will get a much better place to sit near the stage. The weather of Delhi in Morning will be very cold, so bring a jacket.

Changes in Delhi metro trains schedule:

Delhi Metro train will be partially disrupted due to security arrangements on 26th January for the Republic Day, and on 29th January for the retreat ceremony.

This will affect line 2 (HUDA city Centre – Jahangirpuri), Line 3 (Noida city Center – Dwarka Sector 21), Line 4 (Yamuna Bank – Vaishali) and Line 6 (central secretariat – Badarpur). The Schedules will be changed and Some Stations will remain closed. In addition, all the Metro parking lots will remain closed from 2 pm on 25th January to 2 pm on 26th January.

Beating the Retreat Ceremony:

After the Republic day Parade, beating the retreat ceremony is held on 29th January. This symbolizes retreat after a day on the battlefield and features performances by all the three bands of the Indian Military, the army, navy, air force. The tickets are available at the same outlets as republic day parade tickets.
