What does this mean?
As per the above table, 11.34 lakh students who took JEE Main 2017, about 11.22 students got a rank. Then this contains about 96 thousand students who got both zero and negative marks (Column 6 and seven respectively). Besides, every student who opts for the exam and is not ineligible will secure a rank.
What is wrong?
Every critical exam in the country has the lowest qualifying percentage or percentile. If NEET, it is the 50th percentile meant for general category and 40th for reserved categories. Looking after the state’s announcement may be desirous but at the cost of permitting worthless contenders admission is disadvantageous to the national interest.
It also does nobody good especially the student who will deal with a pleasant and stimulating environment and not succeeded.
What is the Result?
And this has resulted in many NITs especially in North East actually admitting students who have either obtained less than zero or around single-digit scores into engineering courses.

What does this mean for students?
It is a topic of worry. It is perceived that 25,220 seats are in whole existing to students throughout categories in all the NITs, IIITs and CFTIs and the total number of students who take part in the exam are about 12 lakhs.
- Lacking a qualifying cut-off, anyone can register and get a rank. It means that in spite of bad marks, nothing or disadvantage marks, a student can join in the counseling for admissions.
- In the ordinary course, all exams with a class test in school have a definite pass mark that is used as a standard to being suitable or advancing towards the following pace. Even JEE Advanced has a specific qualifying cut-off as does GATE, NEET, NET and all other exams that are directed through CBSE.
- Thus, if there is no succeeding mark to regulate if a student would hold a chance of opting for admissions, it means that the exam is entirely pointless as there is each chance of misappropriation by students who compete for entries notwithstanding being unqualified.
